So sorry to hear this. Personally, I’d go for the 6 months pay, unless there’s a particular reason you don’t want to. And if you can, retire fully, I’d also be looking for a doctor to recommend a DWP-PIP to show you’re unable to continue working.
As I’m partially retired I wouldn’t get six Months pay, I’d only get three Months however after over 40 years I would rather leave with my head held high & with dignity than holding on for the sake of three Months pay.
Regarding the pip, the Doctor who interviewed me for the oh hearing advised that I go for some form of disability pay, I am however in two minds over this, I don’t need the money & I think I would feel like a beggar but on the other hand as has been pointed out to me I have worked for 47 years & not claimed anything, Bev says I’m putting pride against pocket & if I don’t claim what I’m entitled to it will go to another illegal immigrant.

Is the disability a result of the job or was it from doing something in your own time? I don't need to know, none of my business, but if I were in your position I think that might influence my decision on whether I claimed or not.

Respect for your Governor that shook your hand. That would go a long way with me as well.

why the heck would you want to go without the money that you can have? They want rid of you, then make them pay. And don’t think of it as being a beggar, you’ve done the time and paid into the system, it’s time you got something out of it, or as you say it’ll go to a bloody illegal or some other form of snatcher - you ain’t one of them, get what you can if you can.

Sorry to hear about you having to jump before being pushed, Derek. Just wondered if there was no way you could have been reassigned to other duties that would have allowed you to continue in the service. You have vast experience that will now be lost to junior officers.

It’s undiagnosed until my xray but my GP is certain it’s osteo arthritis, age related, can’t really blame it on work

My integrity is worth more than money, I believe I have always set a good example to new Officers, if I were to go for dismissal that would send the wrong example, too many money grabbers in the system already

That would normally be offered but due to the prognosis from oh it’s clear that there’s nothing they could offer.

Don't think of it that way mate you have earnt it & its nowhere near sure you would get it anyway, the goverment has been taking your taxes for 47 years to pay into that system so if you can get some back do it !

Or to put it another way you can have the 30 odd years worth of taxes that I have paid & will never see again :( the more there are thinking like you & not going for what they have earned the more left for chancers from overseas imo

Sorry but I agree with Derek. I have never had anything from the taxman whilst I watched others claim for new roof, new windows, new boiler etc etc etc. Aint got feck all now but still have my pride. Worked all hours for twenty years to build up my salary in a final salary scheme. Good company pension and I'm not complaining about my state pension. Watched the midlanders come down to Borth on the dole and no intention of working. I started work at 15 and stopped at 76.

No, it won't go to an illegal immigrant. It will be spent in the NHS and save the life of a beautiful little girl. My scenario is just as likely as any other. :p
