I'll describe my prediciment to you blokes and see if it has happened to anyone else or if there's a quick (and hopefully relatively painless) fix.
I was nearing the end of a fairly long, about two hour ride, on a pretty hot day - mid 90's. It was a mix of open freeway at the start and ending up with about 45 minutes of stop and go. I suddenly noticed my low fuel light coming on, even though I had at least 1/2 to 3/4 in the tank. In quick succession, my tach would drop up and down from 0 to indicated and the same with the speedo. Mind you the temp gauge showed no sign of overheating at all. It didn't stall or quit running and I made it home fine.
The next day, when I tried to start it - zip! Nothing. There was a little juice that lit up the headlight, and dash indicators, but wouldn't turn over at all. I have since tried to charge the battery, (thinking it had running low without my knowing it, even though it had been starting absolutely great the day before) and have checked all fuses and all seem intact as well.
What gives? Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? Or am I resigned to calling a tow and having it taken in to the shop?

I had simular problems

and it turned out to be the rectifier pack :( The rectifier had gone into thermal shock ( according to an expert ( jaws )) and given up and started playing up. I found that after 45 mins the rev counter and speedo died. I bet you ride with your headlamp on? If you turn the headlight off it will get you home.
Replace your rectifier pack, charge your battery and away you go. I found that there are companies out there that will supply non genuine parts now and they save you a fortune ;)
Hope it is just that and not your alternator :(
Hope it goes well for ya and your soon out and about enjoying the bike again

if yours is an injection one could be the alternator totalled as well get that tested first and if the alternator and rectifier are shot.try electrex there stuff is a hell of alot cheaper and better quality than hondas own stuff.
