What the ? Eff is the point of road tax?

Had mine through the post for the four-wheeled Panzer this morning, £465. £140 of that is tax and the rest of it is a penalty for having a nice car, upon which I paid enough tax at purchase, so I don’t see why I should be paying again.

So what do we actually get for this tax? The roads are shite, over-crowded, full of potholes and the public transport infrastructure is so shite that cars and bikes are a necessity.

I really wish there was an achievable mechanism for refusing this tax in the same way that one can refuse to pay the whole bill in a restaurant if the food is perceived to be below standard.

I want to know if road tax is based on emmisions why my brother who has the same spec car but 3 years older than mine pays £20 road tax whilst I pay £145

My new VW diesel is £140pa , the bikes are £85pa each

My 2.3 Fiat diesel motorhome @ 3500kg is £265pa

or rather was, as I’ve now told DVLA that it has now been uprated to 4100kg to give me a greater payload, and as it is now a different weight class the RFL is reduced to just £165 a year.
