Ebay, robbing bastards

Bev eventually got her ebay account sorted out, she has since sold a lot of stuff, in her naivety she undercharged for postage on several items.
She has just had notification from ebay that they have taken £71 from her account, this is supposedly their percentage from her postage (not sales) htf can they justify taking money for postage?

I used to sell a great deal of stuff on there and the hit for p&p that went to them was a disgrace. Something I just had to accept and build in the extra cost into the sale price. I find it’s easier to do free p&p and just make the nett achieved price what I need it to be after all charges.

From the first day I used eBay in about 1864 I have always listed my articles as 'including p&p' as buyers seem to like it.

You do have to be careful on postage - worst time I have been caught was sending some car parts that weighed next to nothing but were very long and skinny - I estimated £10 but it was £27!

I list a fair bit on ebay & always bump the postage up a bit to cover the fees, you do have to do a bit of maths though as the higer the post the higher the fees, don't forget you charge for post AND packing because as silly as it sounds boxes bubble wrap & tape can soon eat into your profit if selling a few smaller cheaper items

It's because people were selling cheap and making their profit on overcharging for postage. Didn't take EBay long to cotton on to what was happening and start charging for postage too

I naively thought eBay took a percentage of the sales figure. I didn't realise they took a chunk of whatever you charged for postage as well.

Live & learn.

I used to see stuff that should cost, say, £100 selling for £1 plus £99 postage. Not only did this deny eBay the correct fee it also meant the buyer would only be refunded a quid if there was a problem and had to return. As people say, make it free postage but price it to cover charges.

She has not set her account up so eBay does the postal cost has she ?
It is possible to do it, and the seller simply downloads and prints a postage label

No, she was guessing what the postage would be & erring on the side of robbing herself.
