Make sure the bastards actually stop the direct debit if you cancel.
They had "no record of my cancellation phone call" when I rang to get my money back.

I'd never use them again.

I've been a sky customer for over 21 years - TV only.
Because I've been with then so long and "out of contract" I can't manage the account on line - first thing I tried.

Tried selecting the option to renew and then saying just want to cancel sports - nope, can onlly renew contract on that number.

I don't want to take out a new contract as frankly I may not have a job for the duration of the new contract.

When I get through on the phone you have to say what you want to do.

I say "cancel sky sports", recording says "sorry you want to cancel, please wait".
45 minutes later I'm still waiting...
Try 'leave sky'.

Other than that all I can suggest is call first thing - I think they open at 8am.

I think they know that I want to cancel something, my view is that's why they don't answer.

I made a complaint against Sky last year in writing as I couldn't get anywhere on the phone - in fairness theyndewlt with that quickly and efficiently. Maybe put your cancellation in writing?

Please take in the spirit intended:) - I know you have already said you can't cancel Sky Sports online - I have just had a quick look at my account and I can, might be worth having another look?

When I cancel something, I cancel the direct debit myself. That stops them helping themselves to my account.

I contacted Bennets when I sold my Blackbird, they replied sorry you’re leaving us but you need to fill in a form & email it to us,
I replied “I have already told you I no longer have the bike & to cancel my policy & you have acknowledged the fact” I then cancelled my dd, received a letter from Bennetts “due to insufficient funds your dd has been rejected” they have now cancelled my policy.

Slight correction - the dd can still be claimed by the originator even if you cancel but you are covered by an indemnity by the bank to reimburse. The bank are also covered by an indemnity from the originator to reimburse.

The very start of the process is that anyone who wants to originate DDs needs a bank to support and guarantee the process. Many hoops have to be jumped through!

It's actually a pretty safe scheme, albeit one that causes much angst

I can't because it's an "old" account.

I don't use sky Q.

Beaker will know better than me, but I'm sure I was told a long time ago by a bank that you can't actually "delete" a direct debit authority on an account.

Once you've given an authorisation to a company they can always initiate a debit.

Just read beakers response after I'd posted.. Doh

Lol!

It's even worse if you put a dd on a credit card as they cannot be cancelled, even if you close the card account.

We had a client who's son used the client's card to subscribe to a porn service based in USA costing about £30ish per month....only reason it was all refunded was that the client was able to speak to someone at the porn site and them his son was 9 ( which he was!) and they went into panic damage limitation mode and refunded everything.

Moral of the story; never, ever set up a DD on a credit card.

Ever.

Ever ever.

Took the pup to the vet back at the dog shelter for her booster. Staff made a right proper fuss of her and said how amazing she looks and that she's lost weight already. Turns out she's put on 300g since we've had her. Common sense would suggest she's dropping fat and gaining muscle as she's walking and running about 5 to 6 miles a day.

I would suggest that the moral of that story is to subscribe to an American porn site with a credit card and then claim it back a year later, pretending it had been set up by your nine-year-old son.
