Good result - you could have been riding round the otherwise peaceful countryside annoying people.

True, I just went to work to annoy people, and with a mask on they cant see me sticking my tongue out at them.

Done the third of my four day shifts, only got to get up again tomorrow at 05:00 silly o'clock and then I get a few days rest.
Used the "bird every day so far but going to use the car tomorrow.

Busy in work today (relatively speaking) as only three of us this morning and two for the full shift. Normally five of us in better times.

Went for a lovely walk down the gorgeous promenade at Eastbourne, coffee and cake, went to get my car back on the way home BOOM, stopped off at alfriston for more coffee and cake and a wander round the village. Saddened to learn that our favourite cafe has closed permanently as a result of poor trade during the pandemic.

Dumped our friends on the seafront as they wanted to see the view from the top of the cliffs - buggered if I am traipsing up a 400' steep incline in this weather.

Probably going to have a nap now, nice cooling chilli con carne waiting for when our guests get back. If they get back.

Are you telling us the Beemers blown up Andrew?;).

And I hope you kept to correct etiquette regarding scones and cream. “Cream on first, ‘tis the only way”, very important these traditions are adhered to.
Looks a very pleasant place to spend time.
Almost as good as Devon .

Went for a cycle ride down to Instow to deliver a mates 70th birthday card, lovely day took a pasty, couple of jam doughnuts and a flask of coffee.
Loads of holidaymakers on the Tarka trail, kids wobbling on their bikes, dogs on extending leads, delightful to see families enjoying the estuary but emergency evasive action needed along with furious bell ringing on more than a few occasions, all done with charm and politeness on both sides :).
Still get the Lycra warriors going way to fast for safety and behaving like it’s their own personal race track though
Can’t understand the bellends spoils the experience of tranquility completely and frightens people to death, no need for it in my book .

Cream on first is the wrong way

the correct, and only true way, the Cornish way, is jam first then cream. We do this because our cream is the cream of the crop and is proudly displayed For all to see

I realise the Devon way is often lauded, especially by my lesser half, but she will come to terms with the correct way one day.

end of.

Simon, it’s just simple logic mate, you can get more cream on the scone if you put it on first, try piling cream on top of jam and all it does is slide off, and I think we’d agree that cream is much more important than jam:).
Can’t argue with physics or logic mate :p.
Your other half is entirely correct, sorry to take sides but cream etiquette is far to important to ignore (y).

I’m afraid avin an ology don’t enter into Minks. I myself am a qualified pissologist, with honours may I add.
Back in the dark ages, (pre Trelawney days) when Kernowland and Jannerland were engaged in deadly conflict over just this dispute both the clotted cream and jam miners fought each other to an exhausting standstill finally agreeing to an uneasy armistice that is still extremely uneasy to this day.
Cream being the undisputed favoured ingredient has to be lavished on the scone up to heights exceeding 18 inches and will simply not stay on with a flimsy foundation of jam.
The original reason for this dispute was thought down to the fact that in the mining of the clotted cream the Kernowlanders discovered tin, this apparently turned their heads to pure profit and they ignored the old sacred ways, they simply didn’t mine enough cream to build a scone to the required height, hence the abhorrent practise of dare I say it CREAM RATIONING :eek: this was accomplished by the dolloping of jam on first making it impossible to accomplish the regulation height.
Meanwhile in Devon we carry on with the tradition as well we can and indeed take pride in building the biggest cream scones in the entire universe. I myself have a personal best of 24 1/2 inches which took some pretty strong will power I can tell you, the desire to scoffit was almost unbearable but I was strong with the force that day and prevailed, very proud of attaining my 5th Dan in the ancient art that is without a doubt a religion down here :).

All the above is absolutely true, honest injun, cross me heart ,true as I’m riding this one wheeled bicycle (y).

It's a good job no one has mentioned pasties and whether a top crimp (Devon) or a side crimp (Cornwall) is better.

Definitely jam on first then cream. It's bleeding obvious.

My three comrades did cream first then jam - as far as I am aware they are still in the garden at the tea shop trying to get the jam to stay on.

When I was on school holidays I worked in Ma Jenkins pasty shop. There we would make the ‘boat’ ie the Devon shape and the ‘crimp’ which was the Cornish (proper way) version. These outsold the Devon ones and are less likely to crack open and spill the contents.
