BLOODY FOC mine cost me ?5 to get a temp repair then ?10 er to get it plugged and only 1mm less tread than u Stan. Just my bloody luck :f

Bet this was orchestrated by Blu after he did his little burnout yesterday he needs a new tyre now :neenaw:

The 220 is a real hard wearing tyre.. Like the D205 it is believed they MAY be made from wood shaving and marbles with the occasional bogey thrown in for that top quality Dunplop grip....

if you really fancy trying a Dunlop get hold of a pair of 208's.. but even Pirelli's offerings are better than most road going stuff Dunplop offer :p

I have been running on 220s for over a year now and have not had a problem. Bear in mind though, they are designed as a high mileage touring tyre and treat them accordingly. If you want sports rubber then go and buy the appropriate tyres and be prepared to replace them after a thousand miles or so. It's down to the weight of the bike and your right hand more than anything else. Also, bear in mind that there is an upgraded 220 from just over a year ago which will give improved mileage as well as grip compared to the previous version. I have never suffered a buttock clenching moment in the wet with these tyres and in the dry I have found that they wiill do anything a competent rider can expect from them. However, I do ride wthin the limits of my ability and do not claim to be a riding God.

Feel free to disagree as much as you like my friend, its what a "forum" is for. Never ever got 8K out of any tyre on a bike before although I have just changed the rears on the car after 57K and only cos one had gone out of true.

Dont think they are even available nowadays, but the Firestone bike tyres wre amazing...

Firestone Everlasting No Grips...

Put a pair on when you buy the bike and never ever replace them.. They were more likely to rot away than wear away !

No I've never got 8,000 miles out of a tyre.... though I did get as low as 800 miles out of a Pilot Sport once.

Well cos I am sort of officially / unofficially testing these here things I have to leep a careful check of milage done.. currently this pair are about 2/3rds shot and have covered 8242 miles :p
Trips have include runs to Italy runs all over the UK, a day at Donnington and a day at another track which was not fun and I will not go back to !

Bluemeenie's rear looked to be due a replacement the other day. Roughly how many miles did you get out of that, Pete?
I've never got more than 3500 out of a rear, no matter what the make / model. This month's Ride mag has a letter stating the same (pg 67) and the expert who replies suggestes rough riding.

I recently fitted Avons (from the same garage Stan mentions is now selling 220's). At the moment I love them, although previous posts on these forums put a bit of doubt in my mind at times. I'm looking forward to not replacing them for a good few thou miles.

This is all off on a tangent cus Stan asked for comments on the 220's. Sorry Stan. BTW, how much is he doing the 220's for? I only ask cus I've told EVERYONE how good Trev is and how cheap his prices are.

Stealth....glad you made it home alright. We should have headed to Abergavenny with you instead of back to Llandovery but I didn't realise you were going to head home from Brecon. Sorry mate. I didn't know you could plug a tyre AFTER a temporary/get u home repair. ?10 isn't bad though, is it?

john,(ex hornet)i think pete has had over 5000 out of his rear avon...including several short burn out's :} don't worry about going off at a tangent, that's what "coffee shop"is for  .not sure how much he is selling them for john....give him a ring if your interested,he'd give you a good deal..no doubt.
i'll echo what has been said by john also.....we should have ridden to abergavenny with stealth on friday....it would've meant not going there yesterday in the COLD 8ree!

I'm with Jaws

Got a pair of Avons on my Bird that I had of 1200 Pete, have done France, Spain, Uk riding and a track day on them and I still have loads of tread left.

Recon I've done over 6000 on them so far, grippy as fook in the dry, just ease off in the wet (as any sensible biker would do anyway)

I'll have me another pair this year.

John (horny9) I've had the Avon's on for just over 5000m the front still looks like new.
The rear's taken a fair bit of stick and at 5k I'm well pleased.
Although I don't do any motorway miles so it doesn't suffer from any squaring off.
All the other tyres I've had have done between 2500-3500 so the Avon's come way out on top for value.
The rear I had before this one did 7500m but I didn't fook it up spinning the rear as I have with this one. c7u8 maybe one day I'll grow up and save some money then again nah growing up ain't no fun.
We'll have to arrange another ride soon m8.

Crap tire.

Avons will do ya, but the newer Pilot Sports are tops.
