1966/7 I was one of those mobile DJ's doing weddings and the like... At 16 I could not afford bugger all, I had to rely on older mates to cart the gear about too ( at 16 I had a van but no licence or anything else ! )
The kit consisted of:
2x Collaro decks ( Collaro was in Barking.. they used to let me raid the scrap bin and I made the decks out of scrounged parts )
The decks were mounted in an old Wem electric organ case that I found behind a music shop.
A Wem two channel 30w amp ( local group had upgraded and I paid £6 for it.. they wanted £3 but that was very very nearly a weeks wage for me..begging insolvency paid off )
A Copycat echo machine ( another throw out that I repaired )
Speakers were from a church that had fitted a new sound system... two 15" something or others . Cost me 10 bob and I made the cabinets for them out of ply, loft insulation and covered them with Fablon upload_2019-10-2_11-3-31.gif
I had two light cabinets that I made using a tiny audio amp feeding in to triacs via home made filters.. I reckon I had one of the very first sound to light systems in existence !

A wedding gig would cost the punter £6.. I wonder what a modern DJ would say if I offered them that LOL :)
Even taking inflation in to account that still works out to only about £150 today
