Did someone mention lights ?

I made this yesterday to up light a bike that sits on a plinth I built at the back of my mates shed & I have another (different) one to do, not my design & I don't particularly like it but its what he wanted & I owe him a favour so there it is ;)

No actual bulbs in it yet as you can see but that will be sorted as soon as I take it to him & I'm actually quite interested to see how it works out

Looks simple I know but it was time consuming to work out & an absolute pig to make the second one is even worse but its for a mate so what the hell it gave me something to do ................. but anything else & the fat lad is going to have to get his hand in his pocket :D

Nice!

Not sure what you have in mind for providing illumination but for simplicity you can get some tiny battery powered led stuff that is pretty bright and consumes hardly any power.

If 240v.....don't forget to earth it!!:eeeeek:

:cop::yikes:

Hi Andy it will be lit with G4 led bulbs on a transformer plug so perfectly safe, it will also be wired by a professional sparky & because of what he's using wont even need PAT testing

Think very bright fairy lights & you will be somewhere near what he intends to do, very good point though (y)

I take it all back  the fat lad just popped in & was so chuffed with his light he actually stuck some cash in my hand & wouldn't take no for an answer  If you knew him you'd understand how surprising that was :D

Not over keen personally - don't like the colour. Shades of grey might be good.

Opinions are always good mate, grey wouldn't be a problem & I can darken or lighten colours to a certain extent, that one ended up green as its the dye I had, loads of other are available

I made that for a mate & after seeing it last night two people commissioned me for random stuff :) one is a nice easy bracket to hang a guitar on but the other is a 6 foot tall standard lamp  feck knows how I'm going to manage that but I sussed it will have to be in 3 bolt together parts or i'll never move it

Only if you don't put your fag out properly, otherwise its ok :risas3:

Just about finished that standard lamp & sent pics to the folk that asked for it, lets hope they like what I have done :)
its ended up at a little over 6' tall & I think once he's added the lamp holder & bulb its going to be pushing 6'6"

I have to add rings for the wiring to run through, clean it down & lacquer it then if all is well it can go off to the new owner
PS I did add earth points top & bottom even though as its solid steel & would conduct the length of it anyway ;)

This has become known as the monster  I've not built anything that big in years, I hope the folks that asked for it like it, still got to lacquer the thing but then its done & can get gone :)

While waiting for some of that to cool I knocked this up simply because I thought I could do better than my mates design for a small light :)

it adjusts nice & smoothly, plus stays put due to the spring, cant wait to get it wired up & see what it looks like then :D

Standard lam is Ace, makes you want to keep looking at it, 1st table lamp was good but a bit to bust, i prefer the second one wit the spring, with this one, less is more (y)

Thanks Jeffa, I know I made the little lamp so might be biased but I agree, my design is simple & not fussy + moves better, I think it will look good when cleaned down, lacquered & lit up

As for the big lamp I keep looking at it myself & see things I maybe should have done differently or can improve on, the missus had to give me a 'talking to' for constantly messing with the thing

The folk that asked for it understand that I hadn't done one before & didn't even know how I was going to do it or even if I could but seemed happy enough for me to have a go at a price well under what its worth in time alone, if I ever make another I can price it properly now I know what's involved, still cheap compared to some as I'm only doing it as a hobby while I cant ride ;)

Have you considered making trophies?

There is a bookend on the first page of the thread jeffa,, I have not made anymore as nobody has asked again, simple enough to do though

I used to make trophies for bike rallies a long time ago Andy, there just don't seem to be a demand now, either that or I'm missing it as I rarely go to rallies now, cant think of any other group of people that would want something like that
