Heading out to Spain in a couple of weeks time and am looking for some advice from you well seasoned campaigners. I intend taking my CBR600 to spain for a couple of weeks and wonder what kind of mileage you could cover in a day?? ( idea being i ride down and the other half fliesout and i pick her up).
It will be fully serviced before hand and have a set new of z6's on.
any advice would be greatful. thanks.

I had a Fi CBR6 and it did 130 miles before fuel was needed ( sharpish too ). If you pushed on a bit probably 100 miles per tank. So with four stops just for fuel you get between 400 and 500 miles in a day, not forgetting you need to eat, drink and empty your bladder, and you can't do much of that on the move. It splits the day into four segments for you.
Move up to a bigger tanked bike and the miles clock up much easier, one of the reasons I swapped the CBR6 for the Blackbird.

Good luck

lets hope you can keep a good average speed up, 60 mph for 600 miles = 10 hours in the saddle

Riding solo means you can save a bit of time, my experience is that when a group stops for fuel you lose about 30 mins by the time averyone gets through having a chat/ piss/etc.

On that tank range the only time you should need to stop is when you need fuel so do it all in one go. Carry some body fuel with you so that when you stop for petrol you can make use of available toilets, have your snack and drink by the bike and you are off again very quickly.

We all think we are fast but you would be surprised at the average speed calculated at the end of the day. I did 470 mls last year to the Pyrenees after leaving San Malo at 8.30am we arrived at 7pm, ok we stopped for lunch and is was a big group so maybe i could have got there by 5pm on my own.

Remember that it's good to have an idea of how far you want to get but it all goes pear shaped if in your haste to go fast you actually go the wrong way and add 50 miles to the trip - i don't use GPS, still relying on maps.

Get to a suitable place for accommodation early evening. Nothing worse than trying to find somewhere to sleep when it's getting late and increasingly likely that it is going to be a case of under a hedge somewhere.
Hotels seem to notice that you are getting desperate and review their prices - upwards.
I do like to book in advance to set my target and know i have a bed for the night.

If I am on my own I can generally cover 600 miles with ease.. ( Have done more than 1000 in a day twice so far.. not recomended if you wanna do some serious miles the day after though purely on a safety aspect )

600 miles should def be attainable with time to spare for nose bag and plotting up early to find a hotel :p

Hi Fink.

If you are going to collect your other half from the airport then I think you will have to be a bit more definate with your plans as 500 miles a day is a lot different to 600 miles a day over a set distance. If you do less per day then you could run out of time and be late to pick her up, during this time your partner would be sitting in an airport lounge wondering were you are and you don't wanna start the holiday with earache!
Give yourself a bit of time to do the trip comfortably as the unexpected can always happen! And drink plenty of water as its getting mighty hot here now.
In reality 500/ 600 miles aint that far on good roads, yesterday we rode from just outside Benidorm to near M?laga (where we live), 2 up, luggage.. about 300 miles in 4? hours comfortably with 2 fuel stops and a sandwich break.

Good luck with your trip w;;v

I'm embarrased now :B , TFMS & I took 4.5 hours to do 246 miles from Benidorm to Cambrills, although we did stop for several water stops too and a full-on 8 euro menu (just a light snack of course :} ) :lick:

Group of us going to the ring in July..........biggest peoblem is that we have a CBR600 coming and will need to stop every 130 miles for fuel.............rest of us can see 180 to 200 per tank!!!!! Great little bikes but I also expect that the seat will not be as comfortable as the rest of us.........quaetion is the advantage around the ring worth the every day losses.......! NO

When going around Europe I normally plan 400 to 500 miles per day. Last year we did an 800 miles leg which was easy on the Blacbird, but a ZZR mounted rider was starting to struggle big time!!

I think if you know exactly where you are stopping 500+ miles is easy. However, if you are going to need a bit of navigation to find your bed for the night I would suggest that 400+ should be your limit.

We run two bikes with sat nav, but finding some places in France is still far from easy!!
