I like your thinking but I should be using my disposable income to bring my credit card balance down faster! So it's a balance, pay some off my card then spend a bit on me. Win win! Lol

I should have specified, I'm going to clean, strip and repaint them while I'm at it. They are very chipped and look awful.
Still baffled why a slide hammer ?
You can just slide the legs out.. And even if you are going to tear them right down STILL no use for a slide hammer !

What about fitting the new oil seals? Do they not need pressing in?

This is an easy job to do and the results are very noticeable..Out of the list this is, in my opinion, the most rewarding
I would say a pissed up fat bird is more rewarding :D

A piece of PVC pipe on to of the old seal which is on top of the new seal & give it a tap

Yes, that's what I'd seen but John seems to be suggesting otherwise! I've PMd him, I'm confused! lol

Makes perfect sense to me :D

If you were just changing the springs spacers & oil you don't need anything much apart from something to undo the top cap
if you are fully stripping them you need something to tap the new seal back in hence pvc pipe but protect the new seal with the old one to prevent damage

The biggest problem you will have is undoing the bottom bolt for a full strip some are easy but some are an absolute pig & anyway my vote goes for rear shock from John simply because being fairly light that is what would make the most difference in ride quality for me ;)

Heat the forks they go in much easier.
Can't remember what I used on Bird but carefully used correct diameter pipe on a 250.
I also used an old photograph wrapped around stanchion to slide it past the seals and protect them from rough edges of the bottom of stanchion

Why have a vote then?

I thought this site was democratic.

It is. 40% of respondents voted for front suspension upgrade. That is the majority. I have followed the democratic process and ordered the fork upgrade kit from JAWS.

I see no problem here!

Move along . . . .
