I've just had...

... the latest version (Evo III) of the 321 Inition! de-link done on my bike two weeks ago.

17 bits come off the bike, 14 hoses and 3 other lumpy componants (including the secondary master cylinder).

If you have the latest version of the de-link only 4 hoses plus two ported CNC machined anodised aluminium bridging blocks go back on. I weighed all the bits that came off and there is a weight saving of around 6.5 lbs.

If you have the Evo II version there is six hoses (no blocks) and it's about ?40 cheaper. Seb uses Goodridge braided hoses so there is no compromise on quality.

I 'spose de-linking is not everybody's cup of tea, as are the brakes when still linked.

With the de-link done I personally have found the brakes are more responsive and you have more control over whats going on at each wheel. For the first time you are utilising all three pistons on any given caliper with just the one operation, so the individual efficiency of each brake is improved by a quantum amount.

You're not having to supplement front braking power with use of the rear pedal, which you currently have to do to operate the third piston on the front calipers (and vice-versa)... Front braking power now is hugely improved, in relation to use of the front brake lever, if you know what I'm trying to explain - about 33% by my reckoning.

Goodridge hoses are always going to sharpen response as the hose swelling you get with the stock hoses is eliminated, but I have found the de-link absolutely superb. I wish now that I'd had it done ages ago...

I'll soon be posting some pics of my mods (couple days) and I'll include a close up of the new mounting arrangement for the front calipers - very neat and tidy it is too.

De-Linking

Sounds the business. I have a bird with a fair few miles on it at the moment so i could'nt justify spending the money on it but i am thinking of exchanging it for a nearly new one with a low mileage. When i do this i am putting ?350 aside to get this done.

I love the Blackbird but have always hated the linked brakes even after people have said 'you will get used to them'. I dislike them more now that i have done advanced training as you are taught proper braking technique.

Yes please post your pics! :)

Clint...

... if you already don't like the linked brakes, then when you get your new bike make the de-link the no 1 priority job... you'll be well pleased.

Check out Seb's website.

I've just spent the weekend fitting the de-link kit from www.321ignition.co.uk and it's not only the best thing I've done to the bike but looks superb!!

Both the kit and the service from Seb at 321 ignition are fantastic and fully recommended.... even received the kit the next day.
Best 300 quid I've spent for ages!

I'll post some pics when i get a chance

P.S.

Before i get a load of abuse.... I know I should have been at the annual bash this weekend and not "w***ing over the bike" (as the missus puts it !) but I had to work the mornings. I'll be there next year though to show you lot how to crash mopeds in style !!

Not a bad idea..............

what you save on de-linking will keep you in tyres, chains and rear subframes for a bit
