I am having to clear and sort my workshop and old stores
The eventual target is to get the two in to one so Woman can reclaim the garden area the store shed is in

I have been at it for 6 days straight, 4 of which has been dedicated to sorting out my hand and power tools
They are being sorted in to three ..One set for the workshop, one for the garage, and what is left is being given to number four grandson ( the only one that really takes after his dad and myself )
Screwdrivers... flat blade, done
Screwdrivers... Cross head various, done
Nut drivers, BA, metric and AF , done
Open ended spanner, AF, metric, whitworth, done
Combination spanners, AF, metric, whitworth, done
Ring spanners, AF, metric, whitworth, done
Pliers, bull nose, done
Pliers, snipe nose, done
Pliers, specialist, done
Grips, mole type, done
Grips, pipe and odds, done
Levers ( various ) and ball joint splitters, done
Punches, done
Chisels, done

Now I have to start on the sockets.... There are about 5-600 sockets that have got to be sorted..... Socket handles ( ratchets, t bars, extensions, torques etc etc ) have occupied half a tool box on there own

When I have done that I have to start on the special tools.. such as pullers, picks, expanders blah blah blah

I HOPE, to at least get the tools done my mid November... then the real fun starts, shelving and throwing away all the other stuff !!!!!!

And would you believe it..
So far, two t handles missing ( 3/8 drive ), several 1/4 drive sockets, a brace driver, a 1/4 drive torque wrench, and two 1/4 drive ratchets
My 3/8 drive torque wrench is out of certificate as is the larger of the 1/2 torque wrenches .. Both will be delivered for calibration this afternoon.. Should get them back tomorrow.. Bugger all paper work but its a freebee so as long as I know they are ok then good enough.. Not as if I am working on customers bikes ( not that I have ever been asked to show they are ok :) )

I finally got round to really tidying my garage/workshop/tool store about a month ago, about three years after moving in.

Still got a massive stash of timber to sort out. Judging by the price that our local garden centre wants for about a meter of 2" X 1" it must be worth at least £1m!

Top tip for everyone, if you ever want to get rid of all your crappy old tools do what I did - send them to Jaws.

Ps I can't abide people who take something out of a set - like a socket for instance - and don't put it back when they have used it.

Makes my blood boil.

What are you going to do with the hundreds of bits that were left over when you were working on customer bikes. I vividly remember you looking at bits of mine with a very perplexed look on your face before checking to see if anyone was looking (they were) before dropping them on the floor and kicking under the workbench. You probably have enough parts under their to build at least four Birds....

I know full well who the culprit is.. Number 4 grandson !
Which is why I am giving all tyhe hand tools that are spares to him.. He can lose as many as he likes LOL!!
Boot sales are to be visited when we get back from Belgium next week..... Replace all the missing bits

I had exactly the same experience as jaws 4 or 5 years ago after 22 years in the same place collecting tools bike bits & associated crap ..... it took a month to clear out reasonably well & what was left after trying to give stuff away either went in the scrap pile or down the tip

I must say its liberating not to have too much stuff around now but I do keep looking for stuff I no longer own

Day 16..

I can see the floor !
I can also see the timbers that are the base of the triangle thar form the roof trusses have bowed and sagged quite alarmingly due to the weight of the stuff I put up in the roof space.
Today I will be removing them, turning them upside down and refitting them.. Only about 6 to do ...

A common failure in timber buildings.

When I put a shed up I always significantly strengthen the roof - they always look fine when new but always sag over time.

And I thought today was going to be boring....:eusa_dance:

Oddly, the roof apex has not moved, it is still dead straight ...

Story of my life John,:(
I have often picked up odd sockets from boot sales........... usually 10 or 20p.
I replaced my Teng Tools 2/8 drive 17mm socket for 20p like that.. with a Teng Tools one :)

31 days now..... I am seeing an end to it at last.

With a little luck the project will be finished on Sunday..
What a bloody mission :goofy:

At times I felt like Sisyphus ... and I still cannot believe how much stuff I have had to simply throw away
