A friend recently asked me if I could solve the problem with his dash lights, he explained that the indicator lights were giving opposite readings also the rev counter erratic plus some of the leds out. On inspection the printed circuit was corroded in parts. In some cases if its not too bad the missing links can be repaired using fine strands from a cable soldered into place to bridge the gap.
However in his case the corrosion was too far gone. I managed to get a s/h one on fleabay but I am told they are a rare find! I paid ?50 not too bad.
The problem of the corrosion is caused by steam rising up from a hot radiator after riding in the wet and settling on the back of the dash.
Prompted me to check mine, there was a small amount of white powder deposit on the circuit but no marked damage! I gave the circuit a good application of ACF50 which should keep the condensation at bay. Now I will check out the dash at every time I do a service for peace of mind. I'm posting this in the hope that it will be help to all those with Carb Birds with the printed circuit dash before corrosion sets in!
