You vill conform and obey vhatever ve decide at ze time, no freedom of expression allowed, unless ve agree with it:mad:. They were offended, poor fuckers, I’m heartbroken for the sensitive souls.
This example of the sheer fucking arrogance of authority should be a warning to all.
Stuff like this just boils my piss!
And may I add doesn’t do anything to aid public cooperation, just fuels contempt, indifference and confrontation.
Need a lie down now.

I agree with it. Why did the driver think it was necessary? Too many people are too quick with their gestures and mouths these days when they think there is no comeback.

To cut a long story short I was using the local cycle path a while back which is covered I 'keep left' signs. Two middle aged gents were coming the other way to me and were on the wrong side - I didn't know whether to be as dumb as they were and move to my wrong side as I had no idea what there intentions were so I stopped. They slowed down and looked at me as if I was an idiot and I politely pointed out they needed to,Stay left. The first chap was 'sorry mate, didn't realise' the second was 'f*ck off'.

So when I had cycled as far as I wanted I turned round and caught them up twenty minutes later. I politely mentioned in passing to potty mouth that there was no need for the language, the look on the blokes face was a picture as he was now in a position where his quick mouth had come back to bite him and he might get a slap. And I am quite a big bloke as well.

Accountability for your actions works in my book.

And in the scenario you describe I would agree wholeheartedly with your reactions Andrew, and bully for you for practising restraint, as we know free speech includes the freedom to insult and to be insulted and we hope for the good manners among the public not to exploit that freedom in the cause of public harmony, however in the aforementioned scenario the gesture put nobody’s pride or ego at risk and was directed at the camera, an inanimate object, yet authority thought it necessary to raise the stakes way above the proportionally of the speeding fine just because it could, as they agreed to teach him a lesson!A lesson in what? Do not exhibit emotion at our mechanisms of control, how fragile are their egos? are they really that insecure? Personally I want more mature consensual reactions from authority. Do you think in your situation you should have made a citizen’s arrest and demanded reparations through the law for your aggrieved feelings, no you decided to deal with it in an adult way without serious repercussions, as I said before good for you
These reactions of authority do not tend to intimidate people, but serve to entrench negative views of that we should be proud of and willing to defend.
In the end, absolute power corrupts, absolutely, and historically ends unfortunately in conflict. Rebels aren’t born Andrew they evolve from certain environments thrust upon them.
Let the cloak of power be worn lightly.

The gesture - It just wasn't necessary in my view.

What did it achieve?

The authorities jump on stuff like this in Zurich and Monaco. Which make them both very pleasant places indeed to visit.

Other than Monaco seems to be in an insulated bubble regarding inclusion and diversity but that's another subject.....
