Just got back tonight. To ease your concerns.
Chunnel :- As said already, easy once onboard, bit of a nightmare approaching from Canterbury end though due to road works etc. Self check in a delight. Kept the bikes back and loaded us last, same as return trip. Something to do with spacing on the train, easier for cars to go bumper to bumper. When you board there are two raised areas (Kerbs) on left and right sides, ride down next to right side then turn bike in and rest front wheel against raised area on left, bike straddling across carriageway, sidestand and first gear, sorted.

Hi-Viz vests :- Not one in sight.
French Police :- as above (Apart from P/port control). P/Port checks are done this side of chunnel, so arrival in France is just a straight drive away, no customs or anything. Same for return, done in france straight drive off in UK. What a good idea.

Come on you Hatters
There seems to be a lot of confusion over the hiviz vests. As I understand it they are only for emegency use, and all passengers of any vehicle have to wear them in a breakdown on the motorways. (one in a car isn't enough)

So take two if you've a pillion. I have a really thin vest that fits rolled up in the small documant holder on the underside of the seat.

The observant ones will have noticed that many franch drivers now have vests permanently over the back of there car seats, presumably because the french plod are keen to enforce a new law.

These vests (the thin ones) only cost a few quid and could save a hefty fine.

Bulbs, and second pair of glasses are also compulsary, triangle not for bikes. Puncture kit makes good sense as well.

Hi viz vests ARE NOT required for motorcyclists.

Do folks with HID's carry a spare bulb :dunno:

Interestingly for cars with HID's I'm told it's a construction & use requirement that they are self levelling and have headlamp washers.

I learnt a weird one for France...

If you're between this
prohib_11.gif
and this
prohib_12.gif
, everything will be as you expect it to be regarding priorities at junctions. After the
prohib_12.gif
, you're expected to give way to traffic joining from the right.

They bloody well use it as well. Straight out, no messsing. Bloody silly rule if you ask me.
