I have a problem, not a real problem but a hard choice.I need to sell one of my bikes and it comes down to my 98 bird with lots spent over the last year or my 01 fireblade with a little spent. At this point i need to mention that the wife (loves the bird) will not go on the blade but i will be getting another bike so it not the end of the world.I love them both (bikes and wife!) but how do you decide? Both bikes are great and it's driving me mad!!

Oh dear ! This is not usually the place for balanced replies to such issues, but lets give it a go !

First off to give us a chance, lets get a bit more info.

Do you do track days?
Do you do any long distance stuff or ever camp ?
Is money ( as in running costs ) a concern ?
Is a bike your main form of transport ?

To kick us off and with by Mr sensible head on, I would suggest the Blade goes, simply because you have spent money on the Bird ( which you will not get back when selling the bike ).
As the Blade has none or very few extras it could be replaced with a similar item ( i.e out and out sports bike in standard condition ) at little fiscal cost.
Replacing the Bird with a similar item would incure not only the costs of the replacement bike but the cost of fitting it with similar goodies as you have on your existing bike ( which we all know is not a cheap excersise ! )

Well i do 20000 miles ish a year on the bikes and use them everyday 'ish. Bike's used for most stuff and short or long distance and i tend to stay away from track days for obvious reasons.Fast road is my bag and the bird goes, stop and wheelies pretty well, spent about ?3000+ last year on bits and mods. Oh i didn't mention that i traded in a blade for the bird. Blade FAN!

Well reading your reply I think you know the answe in your heart already :p
Wave goodbye to the blade mate.. The Bird seems to fill all your criteria and then some.
If you decide to get another Blade it will not cost you an arm and a leg and one could be bought almost anywhere, but replacing the Bird ( which you have obviously spent many hours getting sorted ) would be almost impossible

A tough choice indeed but I guess you just have to weigh up which one gives you the most enjoyement overall out of the two.......over the years I have constantly been challenged with similar decisions usually ending up with me owning four of five bikes at any one time. When I moved to the UK in '97 I had to face the ultimate tough choice ............ to sell my collection of my favorite toys of all time ( 4 bikes and 2 cars ) or ship some or all of them over here :h in the end my sensible head said they have to go and they went...... ...... plenty of regrets as I'd owned and loved them all from new with the oldest being a '80 model CBX1000.
I now have a 99 model BIRD.........would I sell it ? not a chance, will I buy something else ? most likely.

Good luck with whatever path you choose.

I think it wise to remember that having a choice of bikes is lucky and not everybody gets the chance.I like having more than one and will probably end up with 3 or 4 in time. There is a long list!:bang:

Surely it all comes down to what ya want the bike for? They are very different bike..

designed and built for different roles/jobs. Dunno why others think they are similiar!

Is the Blade the XXY model and if so, what colour is it?:dunno:

:yo: Keep the BB,, you'll regret being without it.
I don't think the average rider could get anymore enjoyment from a Blade than a BB. I rode my mates Blade a bit back and it felt tiny and un settled..

Fancy JAWS asking if your CAMP,, he's already converted BERT :m
