Central heating and the ladies....

I don't think I am being un pc but........why is it always too hot or too cold for the fairer sex?

Our heating is pretty smart and adapts to the outside temperature and weather forecast, and is also zoned between daytime living and bedrooms.. You can see what it has done and is predicted to do on a graph on the iPad. So each day is pretty much the same in terms of indoor 'daytime living areas' temperature, around 17c during the day, 18.5c when the sun goes down. If you leave it alone......

It's fine for me, I am happy to don a jumper and slippers to stay just about right.

Mrs A can't leave the thermostat alone given the opportunity - it swings all over the place, up and down like a yoyo. And she complains about it being too hot at night, despite the heating going off at 21.30 and doesn't hit 17c daytime temperature until 09.00.

When my mum cat sits she cranks it up to about 25c the moment we leave - I've tried it and it is absolutely unbearably hot. Fortunately I can monitor what she is up to while we are away and turn it down to more sensible levels without her knowing :D

We have ours set to turn on at 7.34 am and off at 23.50
Daytime it is set to 20 and evenings 21 ( we are sitting still in the evening )

But I call Woman Mrs 21 degrees
If it is 20 she complains of the cold, 22 and it is too hot !

If you can't sit and watch the football in your pants then your house is too cold. Simples.

I should add that we are fairly new to central heating
Up until about 5 years ago Darrell installed ours while we was away..
We came home and was somewhat surprised to say the least !
Previously our heating consisted of a small gas heater in the conservatory, another at the top of the stairs ( that was rarely used ), and a larger gas fire in the main living room

Guy I worked for for some of my ‘Time’ only had a single gas wall heater in the Hall and a fire in the lounge. Even though he was a gas engineer he had no intention of fitting a full system to his own house. Few years on I was living in devon in a house with E7 heaters that were cold by teatime, so I fitted a similar gas heater in the lounge, just left it on the lowest setting 24/7 all winter. Worked rather well, just needed turning up on the coldest evenings. Only sipped gas too, very efficient.

I do Quite a few little diy jobs for the elderly round here - one of the most common is central heating packing up due to pressure loss that takes about five minutes to sort out 99% of the time.

plumbers must love charging their call out fees sometimes.

I’m actually with you on this one Andy, daughter had a new boiler fitted in her last house, one day she rang to say she’d no hot water, I told her to tell me what the pressure was, it was under 1%, I described to her how to repressurise it but she didn’t know what I was talking about, no wonder, when I got to her house I found the pressurising taps werent connected, I reconnected them & pressurised her system, she contacted the boiler fitter who said they weren’t allowed to leave them connected.
Another way of conning people out of exhorbitant call out fees.

There is a bye-law of some sort that says pressure hoses must be disconnected when not in use.

However, filling loops can remain permanently connected - presumably as there is a non-return valve incorporated.

I have just asked Darrell .. Bye laws do not affect any gas installation as they over ride any and all such.. Purely safety
And the pressure pipe should be connected via isolation tap.
The system MUST be able to be repressured by the user, and on a new installation a user book should be given to the customer as a minimum, and it is recommended that during the hand over the customer is told how to perform the repressuring

This info is current as of November 2018 ( so it is pretty much bang up to date )

There's something really sexy about a woman just wearing a jumper.... preferably a baggy one that's just about long enough (jumper, that is....). :p
