Car washing

Just finished reading reviews about the best way to wash a car, the ultimate conclusion was that however you do it you’re going to end up with scratches on the paintwork, car washes that are fitted with microfibre instead of the nylon bristles got a very good review, the Eastern European hand washes didn’t fair so well, dirty water, unclean cloths etc, jet washes have been known to lift flakes of paint, looks like a trip to the local car wash then, can’t be arsed hand washing it, Henry & autoglym can take care of the interior.

Do it yourself if you want the best results. Best done after it has rained as everything is nice and soft. Use a good quality wax then going forward Use a good quality wax shampoo that will build up wax layers and make washing really easy. I use Dodo Juice products and thoroughly recommend them.

Most of all do not under any circumstances get a black car.

Oh …………………………you did.

So did I.

never again.

I’m not a fastidious cleaner when it comes to cars (or bikes) & with my spine I find it difficult to bend over too much, in the past I’ve usually gone to the Eastern European’s who did a pretty good job but looking at the turnover of staff that they employ I think paying them might be financing people trafficking.

Hotbed for money laundering too apparently.

I won't use them now.... Too many chemicals that strip off any protective wax or coatings and one scratched the car with the edge of the brush they use...+1 for Andy's method

Not often but I wash my own car and even more rarely I wash hers as well but I hate doing the inside so have the local ians do that and always have to tell them to NOT put one of those smelly bloody air fresheners in there but they do a cracking job for 7 quid ........... I wont let them do the outside as jetwashing old cars like I can afford is never a good idea also I have seen them dropping sponges then picking them up and carrying on grit included

derek kelly you can buy a microfibre cloth on a stick from wilco so you dont have to bend much or stretch to do the roof (if you are a shortarse) I must say they are pretty good (y)

The biggest plus when washing cars is not to use water straight from the tap. Ideally go and buy a van that window cleaners use that has equipment for filtering and purifying water; no need to wipe it off the car as it doesn’t leave any residue.

That will be c£40,000 well invested.

And you believed your window cleaner when they told you that :)

The best way by far is the twin bucket method. Decent soapy water in one bucket and clean water in the other. Ideally, both buckets should have a grit filter in the bottom. Use a lambswool mitt to wash; under no circumstances should you use a sponge.

Swill mitt in soapy water, apply to car and rinse in clean bucket and repeat until car washed.

Rinse car off with hose and dry with a microfibre cloth.

Yes, that is how I wash my car.
