.................but I'm jonesing for another 'Bird.

Sold my first one under a cloud back in '99; she was a '98 carbie and an astonishing machine.

Bought a '57 injected one back in 2010 and hated it. I couldn't get comfortable on it, it didn't pull very hard and I never wanted to ride it again after the back end stepped out from underneath me on a dry roundabout. I let that one go back in July last year along with my Speed Triple to make way for my Panzers.

Why do I still feel I have unfinished business with a 'Bird?

Fancy a primer one...?
I could really be interested. Trouble is, I have two Panzers in the garage already. Mrs P will grab my nuts and drag them over my head if I buy another bike!

I felt the same when I sold my carb and bought an FI. It didn't feel that quIck, took a while to appreciate it was stupid fast, but in a different way - more turbine like/linear compared to the carb. On the way home from picking it up I was feeling a bit underwhelmed so I opened it up full throttle coming out of a roundabout...like you back stepped out but the bike was better than me and all I had to do was change underpants.

After a while I grew to appreciate the FI.

Yep, like f'ing herpes!

I think I'd prefer a black carbie because I preferred mine over the FI but I guess I could be tempted by either at the right money. Mrs Poo has said no, but I'm working on her.......................

Could you imagine if I bought a red one!

Me!

Thing is, if I had really opened the throttle and the back stepped out, it would have served me right. I didn't though, it was a gentle acceleration as there was traffic in front of me and off I slid. It felt like I went about five yards but in reality it was probably no more than five centimetres. Also necessitated a change of Alan Whickers when I got home. Not a pleasant feeling riding 30 miles sat in cottage pie either!

I'm surprised Beaker hasn't bought one.................
I'm not!!

There is a cheap (£1100) carb Bird on fleabay at the moment where it looks like the owner has got fed up trying to sort 'sticky brakes' after putting new pads in. Bet that would take all of five minutes to fix.

Looks like a bit of a bargain.........
