Yo Tonymac - put my name down to help out fella! Only skimmed the posts as I've not been online for a while but would be happy to do the whole round the UK trip or take part in one 'leg'.

Why not get a group that are going to complete the whole journey and then others can join for various sections close to them?
Cool fatboy, be glad to have you on the whole trip :)

Think there is a flaw in your working out here! How many miles is this route? A previous thread mentioned its around 3500 miles round the UK. I don't care what anyone says, your average speed is going to be around 45 - 50 mph (even on a Blackbird!) so to cover 3500 miles will take 77 hours, or 8 days if you are riding about 10 hours a day (which you won't!) so it's gonna take more like 9 or 10 days!
I appreciate that your route doesn't go right round the coastline, but still looks like a bloody lot of miles to cover in 2 days!!
Thoughts?..........
No flaw m8, the first route was 3500 around the coast line of england scotland and wales. the route on the map above is only 987 miles so the is a diff of 2500 miles ish.

CLive, i am looking at making it 3 days as per my dates stated ealier in the thread 13th, 14th AND 15th OF JUNE.

ok heres another suggestion

bikeroutehn1.jpg

of course this route could be change abit to pick out the best roads.
according to autoroute start at 7am (ish) and go till 5pm 15 min rest every 2 hours will take just under 2 days.

ride day one - camp - day 2 ride, should be done by 5pm that giving an extra couple of hours on top. i would book the friday and monday off work.

just another suggestion.
Hard to see exactly what roads are used on this map, but from local knowledge, I would recommend the A272 instead of the A27 / M27. After the M25, something like A21 to Tunbridge Wells, A26 to Haywards Heath then the A272 all the way to Winchester, perhaps then the A31 to Weymouth.

The A27 is a pretty shit road, boring, the A272 is much more fun!

The only other thing that comes to mind is perhaps to go a bit more West into Wales as some of the roads there are great, rather than just stick to the main trunk roads. Be nice if the trip could be 1000 miles, sounds better!!

Yeah sounds good. I have been trying to get a closer picture of the United Kingdom so I can draw out the roads which are going to be used so you can see them easier.

Once we have made our final decision on what roads we are taking e.t.c then im going to crack on and make a website and figure out what we can call this ride out. Im leaving what roads to where down to you lot and my old man.

Copy, or study other rides.

Matty, here in Ireland there is at least one yearly round-Ireland ride for charity which is sponsored by personal donations and from supermarkets and companies etc.

I have not ridden one yet, but I only have my bike a few months.

The main one here always gets celebrities to come along, either riding or by pillion. This draws media attention.

Another thing is police. It always has police outriders helping through towns and so on. Police riders and police in general are very helpful to good causes, genuine good guys. We are talking large numbers here, 200-300 bikes, so a traffic problem in 40 mph areas.

I would suggest you get talking to some of the committee on this fundraiser or some similar English ones. They are sure to be able to give you pointers so you can avoid logistics and traffic problems.

Also, it would be good for you to estimate the number of machines you would have riding along. There will be a world of a difference between planning for 20 bikes and planning for 200 bikes.

Great idea. I'd like to help.

Edit me in.

I will be over to ride some, or all of the route. I will probably have a couple of m8s as well.

One minor observation; the run starts on Friday 13th. Personally I don't care two hoots, I'm not superstitious. However, media attention being what it is, if even ONE biker falls off and grazes a knee, it will make headlines. Maybe any publicity is good publicity?

Are these dates set in stone? Whichever, count me in.
