Looks like the counties are a no then, Lands end to John o'grotes is always being done. How about a compass... North to South, West to East... er just thinking out loud..

So far only about 8 people are prepared to assist... might pay to find out 'how many' and list them on the first thread post.. Then look at where to go, what to do.

of course this route could be change abit to pick out the best roads.
according to autoroute start at 7am (ish) and go till 5pm 15 min rest every 2 hours will take just under 2 days.

ride day one - camp - day 2 ride, should be done by 5pm that giving an extra couple of hours on top. i would book the friday and monday off work.

just another suggestion.

That sounds about right, think it could be a case of " follow me I'm right behind you"
Many things like this sound good in type but when imput and commitment are involved the excuses follow, especially if own money is involved.

There are other factors to consider Mick, such as not being able to commit until days/dates are chosen, I know for a fact I cannot get a single days leave for any time this year, I have already applied for leave for May bank holiday next year for the bash & I've received a noted which means I will have to wait until nearer the time to find out.

Mick ..... so that was you offering your full & unstinting support for the cause .... glad to see it mate.....

As DK said .... I have offereed to help (by doing whatever the organisers ask me to, be that ride/partake or support services) BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHEN....

I work rostered shifts as does DK and am expected to make myself available to work some of my rostered days off to support my employers operation. Once I know what dates are selected I can sort out time off. But just as DK says if I'm rostered in work and it's a time when things are busy/others already on leave etc then I'm unlikely to ge tthe time off.

I''m glad your in a position to support it regardless of the dates Mick .... I hope I'm fortunate enough to get the time off needed.

Ipswich to York if thats a help.

What night stops do you suggest/where.
Was thinking of doing it the other way round get the london section out of the way first.

smix if you could do the brighton/guilford to birmingham and clive york to the finish that would be good.

was thinking about starting near thetford and finishing the first day and camping down in the south west, ?

i will start to put names and sections on the first post of who is joining us and what section the are doing.

HOW ABOUT THE 13th, 14th AND 15th OF JUNE ?

Tony

WILL HELP

Would be interested in helping or joining with the ride. :yo:
Few ideas .
  • Not sure what the dates r for any of the bash?s but it would make sense to me to tie it in with one of those. Southern bash for the finish say. This would bring in more people for part of it. Auction, moped races sponsored ect ect. More people = more cash.
  • How about a slogan for the event. ?ALL FOR ONE ? bit corny I Know but if every body you know or meet on the ride out puts in at least one pound then it will soon mount up.
  • Each county has a competition to raise the most and a meet up with local press for presentation on the ride through.
  • Or secret counting at the bash to see who wins.
  • Visit all the football or rugby clubs they could donate and raise cash at match?s. Good press coverage.
  • All the places they do track days or racetracks with club racing events rattle tins at meetings and events. Lots of bikers who appreciate what you r doing.
  • Celebes bikers would be a good source of press and poss. cash. Not sure how to go about it though.
All the above may be either to big or impractical but hopefully it will help. :dunno:

Yo Tonymac - put my name down to help out fella! Only skimmed the posts as I've not been online for a while but would be happy to do the whole round the UK trip or take part in one 'leg'.

Why not get a group that are going to complete the whole journey and then others can join for various sections close to them?

Think there is a flaw in your working out here! How many miles is this route? A previous thread mentioned its around 3500 miles round the UK. I don't care what anyone says, your average speed is going to be around 45 - 50 mph (even on a Blackbird!) so to cover 3500 miles will take 77 hours, or 8 days if you are riding about 10 hours a day (which you won't!) so it's gonna take more like 9 or 10 days!
I appreciate that your route doesn't go right round the coastline, but still looks like a bloody lot of miles to cover in 2 days!!
Thoughts?..........

Half way would be about Shrewsbury (from thetford), unless you split it over 3 days and 2 stops. York to Thetford is ok with me, I'd probably travel up the day before... or if you have a 2nd stop meet you there. A 3 day would be Thetford to just south of Bristol, there to Carlisle, there to Thetford. approx.
