I don't know what the chancellor is going to say but I would be interested to hear what he's got planned for the £billions we're not paying to the EU anymore.

He's going to say everything that he's already told the press over the last few weeks.

Today is just the inconvenience of telling those that don't matter, us and parliament :)

Sneaky one on business rates.

Reduce them to help businesses, which I sort of understand.

But reducing business rates means the local council loses the money, not central govt.

So who takes the flack when the inevitable happens.

At least do it through central govt budgets.

It seems to me that things are going to get so bad that we are all going to hit the bottle, but good news it's not going to cost as much. And as we wont be able to afford to go anywhere due to the cost of petrol cheers :copas:

he's going to say we saved money by leaving the EU as if its his idea, then he is going to say we have no extra cash for anything as the lockdown ate it all up, he will conveniently NOT mention that's its their mismanagement of the crisis that has caused 50% of the problems and he will finish with unfortunately all you working proles are going to have to pay more taxes to make up the shortfall but of course we the elite wont pay a penny as usual

Don't think that's quite true. Local councils collect Council Tax and Business rates, but a fair bit of what they collect goes to central fund.

Half goes to Central govt to a fund which is then distributed back to local govt.

It doesn't necessarily go back to the council which collected it - its the sneaky mechanism central govt use to fund local councils.

So if the pot is smaller as central govt reduced business rates then the amount being redistributed is also smaller.

Lose - lose!

Yup, that's the result of spending during the pandemic - we will all have less money having spent it during the last 2 years.

Absolutely, my comment was really that central govt funding of local govt is partially a smoke and mirrors exercise!
