I've been without broadband since 24th May, but I have had a landline. it was arranged by BT for Open Reach to come today to install full fiber broadband.

For the past two weeks Open Reach have bombarded me with text messages and emails telling me they were coming today between 1 and 6.

this morning I thought that as it was cooler I would mow the lawn, when at 10am an Open Reach engineer turned up and told me he was there to install my new broadband I did ask since when did 10am fall between 1pm and 6pm :nusenuse:

Anyway now I gave broadband but no phone line and apparently my phone wont work for 24hrs

On the same note and what a coincidence!

Our conversion to full fibre started way back in February...

The equipment (hub plus phones) arrived within weeks.

At the end of March BT Openreach van turned up to run the fibre from the house to the box (actually a pit in the front lawn of the house two doors down).

At that point it all unravelled.
The duct was blocked apparently in various places, looks likes builders rubble (one piece was a piece of hefty broken road kerbstone on top of the broken duct) by the roadside and probably under the road.

Having spent most of the day trying they gave up and decided the "heavy mob" would have to come out and dig through to a point where the duct was intact back to the cabinet.

The heavy mob AKA Openreach Civils arranged and kept an appointment for 10th May.

With one big builders truck complete with built in crane it looked like this were moving ...

But they weren't....

The one truck crew decided the job was too big/complicated for them and they required more help and left.

Two weeks later Openreach Civils returned with two trucks, various bits of heavy equipment ready to battle the builders rubble hidden since 1988.

But two trucks, crews and loads of gear was not enough. Having spent most of the day digging in the front garden, trying to poke through the duct (all if which had already been tried by the first little van plus the first Civils crew) they concluded it would require digging up the road and require traffic control etc.
Scratched my head a bit as we live at the end of a cul-de-sac with only one more drive (shared by two houses) past us.
Never mind, with a cheery wave and a "we'll be back in a couple of weeks" off they went.

Since that at the end of May it all went quiet until today.
When a little Openreach van turned up to switch us over to digital voice service.

One look at the fibre box on the house wall with nothing running into it and he quickly realised it wasn't going to happen.

He took pictures, made numerous phone calls, and explained that a form W51 or W50 or some such hadn't been previously completed so everything had ground to a halt.

He's done an assessment, completed the relevant form, scratched his head a few times trying to figure out why Civils thought they needed to close the road or dig any appreciable distance.

While he did this and waited for various call backs I kept him supplied with pints of water and witty banter.

Eventually he tired of the witty banter, assured me it shouldn't take long now. He also volunteered the info that this is happening all the time, turning up to do a booked job only to find an earlier required step has not been done

So Minky, you are not alone.

In fact I think I'd prefer chasing a mad parrot from chasing a dysfunctional Openreach. :)

I was on the phone to BT last night and it appears the reason my landline isn't working is because the Open Reach engineer disconnected my copper landline and BT hadn't asked anyone to connect me to the digital system and they cant reconnect until next Friday midnight.

I have been offered £150 compensation which includes the refund on my having paid for a nonexistent broadband do basically £100 compensation which in my books isn't enough

Just to continue with BT and their dysfunctional efficiency!

Our broadband saga only started in February!

The latest update is that OpenReach Civils will return again next Wednesday to complete the work.

While this will be the third visit the civil team have not actually done any "work" yet. Apart from use one spade to dig around two or three foot down in one spot in the garden (twice) backfill and go away.

The woman on the phone did say they had been a bit disjointed.

Given Minkey's experience I'm now anticipating that the fibre will hopefully get laid/connected on Wednesday. I'm then expecting the broadband to stop working followed by the phones a week later :)

I was without broadband for 3 weeks after they cut me off due to BT/Open Reach misunderstanding, Open Reach then came and installed the broadband and cut off my phone, then BT did something and I can make calls but not receive them despite promises the latest promise is it will be sorted on Monday but I'm not holding my breath

so good luck

So far, so good ...

Openreach Civils have turned up as promised.

Dug hole in garden as before.

Progress though!

They've stuck at it and unblocked the blockage at the kerb side.

Have identified blockages either side of neighbour's drive and the other side of their neighbour's drive.

Now working on clearing them/routing around them

It's looking promising. :)

Thumbs up for Openreach Civils from me.

They've now laid the duct from the box to the house!

They found three more blockages left by the builder crushing the ducting with rubble etc and in one case using non standard different sizes which over the years allowed roots to grow into the ducts.

We now have a complete duct up to the box on the wall, with string through it.

Next few days we're told to expect the normal Openreach van to turn up, pull through the fibre optic cable and hook it all up.

Fingers crossed.

It did take six men, three vans and all day to complete:)
