All,
Just returned 4 hours ago from a fantastic week away touring with the Blackbird, with the highlight being Sunday at the Moto GP in Brno.
I know a few of you saw my progress with the bike over the winter and know I only aquired it last October and tidied her up a little. Well I am smitten, it handled everything 1600 miles (4 days riding) could throw at it and I didn't even have to adjust the chain! R#?
Weather was hot - 26/27 degress and people in the Czech Republic fantastic - where else can you get a great meal and get pissed for ?7.50?
Got to the Church of bones on the way out and Colditz on the way back. Top speed the GPS recorded was 151 MPH (2 up with luggage) and it's effortless to cruise at 120 - 130 MPH throughout Germany.
There were a few roadworks but even Germans are happy to move over and let you filter! I even met one who had a sense of humour!! :k
I can throughly recomend it, so get the date in next years diary and book that ferry.
take Care,
Gaz

Gaz,

just a word to the wise mate, filtering, even in a roadwork situation such as you described, is illegal in Germnay, the chap with the sense of humour was probably looking forward to seeing you getting a fine from the boys in green and brown, cos they don't turn a blind eye.

don't say you weren't warned. :t

Mike,
Yep you are right of course, filtering in Germany is illegal, but it's one of those things everyone does and the plod usually do turn a blind eye. I only ever condone it to "make progress" and then sensibly at a speed suitable for the conditions.
The Plod are actually pretty good on the whole, probably similar to our own with a few exceptions to the rule. Met a brit on the ferry who was caught bang to rights having been captured on camera between two points who had all of his documents on him, showed some respect and was let off with a warning.
The Germans I met with a sense of humour were at Colditz but that's another tale!
My post is all about using the Bird for what it was made for, seeing some great racing, drinking some cheap beer, guaranteed weather and meeting like minded people.
Thanks for the "warning" but I'm a big boy now...............

Gaz, nice one m8. You should do a decent write up including piccies and the like  I'd love to ride down to Brno, and would dearly love to do a trackday when I get there too, but that's another story.

I want to do a big European tour, taking in loads of places such as Brno but the finances will always keep it as not much more than a good idea I reckon, in the meantime I'll have to stick with short hops to the continent for weekends instead

Would definitely be interested, but would depend on what Pete wants to do next year. I know that sounds gay, but for the last two years we've been trying to sort a trip to France for a 10 day blast but either through business (him) or money (me) probs it just hasn't happened.

I promised him I'd save enough to go next year, but he might be up for this too, not sure. We'd have to come back via Germany and spend at least 1 day at the 'Ring on the way home though :lick:

Your waterproofs then. I went last year, wettest ride I have ever ever had. and Brno was bloody cold. Still the racing was good and the beer was fine.
