Worth joining or not? :dunno:

Personal choice, DK. If you're going to use the benefits (to recoup the cost of joining) then yes.....it's worthwhile.

If you're going to join to help promote the image of biking in the U.K......then probably no.

The BMF seems to have lost it's way in recent years.....they have just voted in a new Chairman.....so time will tell if he can fulfil the promises. I ain't holding me breath, though !!!!!! :}

Tina and me are members we get a nice!! magazine each month a couple of quid off the entry price at BMF meets, ermm!! errr!!! did I say we get a magazine,?? you get a list of merchants that gives a discount for members,!! a load of adverts that can be found in any bike mag, and as Steve says they seem to have "lost" their way, imho too much "pussyfooting" around, and have always been very liberal compared to Mag, :dunno: choice is yours m8

Whilst phoning around for insurance renewal in October a few of the companies asked me if I was a member of any group such as the BMF or MAG. I never bothered to ask them why they wanted to know, so I am left wondering wether it may have saved me a few quid on the insurance. :dunno:

Don't know if it's any help, DK, but I joined the Honda Owners Club. Never been to a meeting but I get 10% off my parts and servicing from Woodford Motorcycles for my ?12.00 a year, and thats off 3 services.

I have actively supported the BMF for many years..
Apart from the slight advantages at show times I am far from convinced it is fiscally worth while, but they do and excellent job on behalf of the UK bikers and for that the BMF will continue to get my support.

BTW Ian, I think you will find the Rider mag is now bimonthly mate.. I was at a meeting last year ( in fact it might have been the year before come to think of it ) when it was decided to drop the monthly issue and take it bimonthly to save costs..

When I first bought a bike, I had no idea what the BMF was. I was strolling through Queensgate in Peterborough one saturday doing some shopping in my leathers when I was collared at a stand they had in the centre.

When I asked what BMF stood for they said "You came all this way for the BMF show and don't know what it is?"

Anyway, when they told me what the group do on behalf of bikers I signed up straight away. I even went along to the Showground the next day to find out what I'd been missing for the previous 5 years I'd lived in P'boro!

Well what do they do.
Preach the gospal according to....... ride round with shiney leathers on.......do 30mph in 30mph limit and in a 50mph limit do 50mph....some of them talk a lot.
But stand up and be counted and make a noise..... Nah.
But if thats your thing do it.... the discounts given by joining, should just about get your money back.
Some like it, but not me.
Cheers Paul
