I was chased by a plod on a high speed pursuit police pushbike a couple of days ago.

I go out for a bike ride every other day. I do 16 miles (8 out, 8 back), it takes me about an hour and I use the same route because it's the only way I can find some hills in this flat as feck area.
Matey started following me about 200 yds behind for about a mile until I got to a hill, then he started to flag and then eventually turned around and headed back. I checked later and he turned at the administrative boundary for the town.

Dead exciting it was...... Neeh Naah, Neeh Naah. Maybe they'll scramble the police helicopter next time. :D

I'm not sure they are Derek.

Lockdown rules prevent public gatherings so that knocks out group rides. Anyone is allowed out for daily exercise and I think anyone would struggle to argue that riding all day fits into that...but it is open to interpretation.

Either way, it is pretty clear that cycling is exercise and motorised cycling just isn't.

It is if the fooker breaks down & you have to push it home.
good,point.

Officer "turn round and go home, motorised cycling is NOT exercise"

"But Officer, it's a Blackbird, the charging circuit will let go in a minute and I will have to push it home so it is exercise"

Officer " sorry sir, I didn't realise you were on a Blackbird, on your way"

I don’t think the time spent exercising is a problem, it’s the distance. My cycling at the moment is multiple circuits on the roads round Bretton and Crigglestone staying near home. I know of two blokes at the jail who did a 130 miler out to and over the Humber Bridge earlier this week which I think is out of order and if the cops see it on Strava they should have a word with them.

Try being my weight & wrestling something like a GS1000 or even worse a Z1000 around for a couple of hundred miles at a decent rate of knots, trust me its not exercise its a full body work out that leaves you completely knackered

Apparently it’s a loop hole, there are no time or distance restrictions for exercising as long as you maintain the two metre rule, strava have actually set challenges.

Cyclists around my area are still doing what they've always done, they just cycle in their groups every day now instead of just weekends. Admittedly, they do space themselves out a bit more, across the whole road instead of 2 abreast but the lock down seems to have made little difference. they're still just as arrogant & believe the rules don't apply to them.

It's been reported in the village that some of them will also swerve in as close to the curb as they can when cycling past a pedestrian, although I've yet to witness that myself.

I've also noticed an increase in Mountain bike types cycling along the footpaths in the local area too. Makes social distancing a little difficult when walking, which i do most days at the moment.

I thought the rules specified an hour?

Seems not. They just specify one form of exercise a day - alone or with members of your household. Judging by the size of the groups of cyclists blocking the roads round here they must live in fucking big houses.

From gov.uk

17. Is there any time restriction on being outdoors for the purpose of exercise?
There is no limit on how long you can exercise for, but you should spend as short a time away from your home as possible. Stay local if you can and act responsibly at all times. Once you have undertaken exercise, you should go home immediately. Do not linger in public places. For example, after having gone for a run or a cycle, you should not sit down or rest away from your home, unless necessary for health reasons.

I just found this on BBC website. Again, no time formal time limit but several hours appears to be a no-no.
  • "The UK government hasn't set formal time limits for exercise. In Wales, rules say you can exercise for a reasonable amount of time - with four or five hours out of the question".
