Bloody Chuggers

noobie

Clueless in most things
I'm having a day off so catching up with stuff at home, listening to the Chilcott debate in the background and Knock knock. A man said he was from a local hospice charity for kids and sorry to disturb me.

I said I appreciate the work you do but I never give to charities as most spend most of their money on running costs and a smaller percentage on the people the donation was meant for. I again thanked him for his efforts but thank you no.

He said the government had reduced their funding by ?3.5 million and they needed to knock on peoples doors for money. I again said I appreciated his efforts but if I wanted him to knock at my door I would have invited him. He said "you don't have a sign on your door saying not to knock" I pointed out that I do not have any sign on my door saying please do knock and annoy me either

I also mentioned we do have a security entry door system that is meant to keep people out who have not been invited I again thanked him for his time and he again started ranting about it's the governments fault of losing ?3.5 million in donations?? It would not take too much imagination to believe he was a union rep at one stage in his life by his manner.

The same in the town centre, they almost form a defence line to corral and corner you into emotional blackmail and contribution. in 2014 more than 195,289 charities in UK raised close to ?80billion a year and many were charities that did the same exact thing

Yes I am old, yes I am grumpy but bloody chuggers get on my tits

I always turn it on its head, and tell them the amount of time and money I already donate to charities where I actually know where the money is going.

I'll put my hands up I do collections for a charity, but I don't knock on doors it is usually at events or a super market. I just smile nicely at people never hassle anyone. Some do which gets the rest of us a bad name

Once a month we get a bag through the door from a fire fighters charity which I don't have a problem with, what does piss me off is the guy who delivers it does so at between 5.30 & 6am waking the whole household up in the process

Guess what I am doing at 5am in 3 weeks time :shooter:

I get between 3 - 5 bags every two weeks through my door for various charities.

Some give false charity numbers, some have 0844 numbers to phone to verify they are a charity and some only 'work' on behalf of a charity & give a massive ?2.50 per ton of clothing donated to charity.

So I bag up the clothes using the bags provided & take them to local charity shops instead. :-0)

After recently seeing a table in one of the broadsheets, listing the earnings of the Execs for the top 100 British charities, I've knocked on the head long standing Direct Debits for Guide Dogs and The Dogs Trust.

I still have DD's for the local Air Ambulance, HfoH, The British Legion and Search & Rescue Dogs Assoc. but until the rest sort out their priorities they can whistle for it.

There was a court case round here a year or two back where some Poles or Romanians were going round collecting the bags ahead of the charity collectors and then selling the good clothes on eBay and binning the rest.

So likewise we've gone back to just dropping them off at the local hospice shop like we'd done for years before.

We decided to clear out all the old DVD's that we knew we'd never watch again. Packed them in a couple of boxes and took them down to the local British Heart Foundation shop.

While SWMBO sat in the car I took the boxes in one at a time.
When I walked into the back of the shop with the second box I found the shop staff cherry picking and bagging the best ones for themselves. Boy did they look sheepish.

So much for charity.

Human nature over-rides charity, so it seems. :bang:

I actually saw a big white van doing just that ahead of the charity collectors when I was in the UK. I phoned the police to inform them but gained no useful response. A few of the charities actually paid Royal Mail to deliver the bags to all households as part of the Bulk mail deliveries.
