Got my new company car last Thursday - Renault laguna 1.9 Turbo diesel - you may laugh - after a 1.6 Volvo this is serious stuff. Too busy working on one of the bikes over the week-end to do any riding/driving so car has 298 miles on the speedo. Driving home tonight minding my own business when all senses came to alert. Easing out from a side rd onto the dual carriageway I was on was a myopic tart ( guess how I know!). I knew from the moment I saw her she was going to pull out so hit the brakes. She stopped and so did I - unluckily for me it was right in front of her so she drove forward and bashed in my passenger door! Bugger! I would have been better off if I had carried on as normal. How the F*** do these people pass their tests?
Am I going to get the piss taken out of me in the morning!?

That is the freaking problem, people don't learn to drive - or to ride for that matter, they learn to pass their test - I've had this pet idea for a while now...
You create a proper test, where people have to be able to do emergency braking, prove their defensive driving, observation and anticipation skills etc... So already, that's about 80% failure rate - next, people pass their licence every 5 years, and the roads are much safer...
Obviously people in the relevant governement bodies must have thought of that so why hasn't this obvious solution been implemented yet?
Problem is, the automotive industry lobby is far too strong to allow something like that since they would be selling far less cars...
Second, people not able to develop proper driving skills wouldn't be able to transport themselves that easily without cars... so basically, it's a trade-off - less safety for a better industry and more people moving aroundto serve the economy and make a living :mad:

Important - Extra's needed for Laguna (dCi)

Must fit "B.I.R.D." sticker to rear window.

Increase will be noticed in both acceleration and top speed

Roger
Mostly in Laguna, occasionally on Blackbird

Grampi - no-one talks to me at home either, so I'm used to it. As for Lumpy - he's just a lovable old rogue!

Bob Pinder - I bey the car is mended quicker than you can get CBR 1000 screens

:}

As a postscript to the accident - I phoned up the dopey cow to get her insurance details only for her to say she has phoned the Police to admit liability - she couldn't understand why they were not interested!:bandit:

If we had a serious driving test with renewals, about 80 percent of drivers might be off the road. Great for road safety, but the econmy would grind to a halt. Who, for instance, would drive all those white vans?

The appaling standard of driving is IMHO accepted by HMG as part of the price of keeping the country going.
