Well it's official now it seems, you aren't allowed to mention that black people can be racist too.
Bernie Eccleston has said in an interview with CNN that in a lot of cases, black people are more racist. Cue Hamilton saying that such a racist attitude is why blacks are under represented in F1 and Statements from F1 disowning Eccleston saying he has no connection to F1 and his views are repulsive. Set of twats the lot of them. They can't see the truth that's in front of them, presumably because they've got their heads up their arses.
Racism exists and needs to be challenged and eradicated but you can't achieve that if you deny that blacks can be racist too.

We have a few black & Asian officers now who have one or two years in the job, they are being approached by their line managers & told to go for promotion, the reason is not because they are good at the job but because it is a feather in the cap of their line managers to get bame Officers promoted.

Think they call it positive discrimination. Engineered discrimination to finally achieve the illusion of a non discriminatory organisation. The end result may look good but if better candidates have been rejected along the way because they were not the preferred race. Its a hard pill to swallow but then again how would they ever know that was the reason?

Many years ago they tried recruiting more Asians, one applicant failed the entrance test, at that time if you failed you had to wait twelve months to reapply, they invited him for special lessons in how to pass the exam & let him reapply six months later, he just scraped through.
He borrowed a stamp collection from a Prisoner (a sackable offence) & then alleged that it was stolen from his car, to keep the prisoner quiet he agreed to send him some money (a sackable offence) he did this under an assumed name, it was picked up that this prisoner was receiving money from an unauthorised source & was investigated, the Officer??? Was suspended briefly then sent to Leeds to work whilst the investigation was under way, he was later sent to Birmingham on promotion.

The question of 'Positive discrimination in the workplace' sometimes isn't as 'obvious' as it appears.

Whether anyone believes it or not, we all have what these days is termed as 'subconscious bias' of one form or another i.e. We don't think we have any 'discriminations' but when tested they can be there. Having spent some time working on the subject I was surprised at what I learned, not only about others, but about myself. It isn't just about 'racism', it can be about any human related point of differentiation.

There are some very simple questions that you can ask yourself to test this out.

A very good one being ......if you are a 'white' person would you want a

A) white' family
Or B) (to use the trendy acronym) a BAME family
Or C) a same sex married couple/family
Or D) I don't care

buying the house next door to you?

If your answer is D) with the proviso 'as long as they behave themselves and don't offend me' the next question is 'which of the three do you expect not to 'behave themselves or not offend me'?

A lot of people will simply dismiss this exercise as it doesn't fit their own view of themselves. Some will dismiss it as 'typical snowflake bullshit'. The former is understandable, the latter is where the real problem lies.

But for those that answer the question honestly some if not many will find it thought provoking. What is the first thing that comes into your mind when I say (for instance) 'Polish person'? Bengali? Scotsman? West Indian? And any others you can think of.

There are many other questions to test subconscious bias, it's not a subject confined to race.

When I look around the areas local to me and see the sort of anti social behaviour that gets on my wick it's invariably committed by the "white indigenous" populace. It's rare for me to see unacceptable behaviour from "ethnic minorities".
For that reason statistically a local (emphasis on local) white family would be my last choice for neighbours.

Interesting theory but it doesn't quite hold up to scrutiny , my answers would be (D) I don't care as long as they behave them selves and I would expect any of the above to act in a reasonable manner irrespective of ethnic background, sexual preference or skin colour

I have to agree with slim here.
I do have a BAME ( god I hate that acronym ! ) neighbours and their race religion sexual orientation matters not to me.
Being a good neighbour matters....
I am fotunate to have good neighbours ... I can only imagine the stress bad ones create.

The 'neighbour' question is exactly that - it's not a defining question on whether someone is racist or not.as explained in my post.nnthe point of the post was to raise the subject of 'subconcious bias'.

Even on here I doubt that there is anyone who considers themselves 'racist' (the blindingly obvious xenophobe happily disappeared some time ago) but you don't have to look too hard to see subconscious bias in one shape or form. Before anyone starts shouting, that's not a criticism, it's something that is there in all of us in one shape or form..

Another aspect is age. To my mind there is little doubt that in general older generations have more 'racist' inclinations than younger generations. There are two elderly people in my life and neither would do anything to hurst someone but they both display what is now regarded as racist tendencies by the younger generations. That's not a personal criticism of them, it's the way it is. My generation is much more liberal than they are, and my sons generation is much more liberal than mine.

Long may it continue.

If being biased against feckless, lazy, professionally unemployed chav scum is racist then I'm guilty as charged. Funny how nearly all of them in my local area are white.

I too have good neighbours the old dear one side is as daft as a brush (in a nice way) the other side are polish (or something) & don't speak much English but are very pleasant people

All of which i'm thankful for having had a twat of a neighbour in the past, think alf garnet on steroids but louder & more aggressive, add a constantly barking dog & life was hell, it came to a head one summer when I asked him politely to quiet down a bit as I had young kids at the time, he took a swing at me  getting no reaction as he was 80+ he called his son & said I had threatened him (total lie) so his son took a swing & got the reaction they wanted but not the result, lets just say the son went all sorts of colours, black, blue, purple, yellow & came out in lumps & bumps at the same time, end of problem :D

It's simple, at least in my mind, a twat is a twat no matter what race colour or creed they happen to be and a good person is a good person there is no more to it than that ;)

It really is as simple as that, we need to stop defining people by the colour of their skin or whatever.

all this lets take a quiz answer these questions to see if you are racist or not is a load of shite, questions can be manipulated until the questioner gets the answer they desire. for example answer a, b, c or d , ok are we done? erm no, you then have to answer this question, are we done? erm no, theres another question, add infinitum till you make someone believe they may have underlying racist thoughts or not.
You either are or you are not.

I agree to a point that the following generations are marginally better than the generation before, racism is taught/learnt not inherent. This whole BLM thing has put us back at least 50years with regards racism. Its not gonna happen overnight and will never be eradicated completely.

The question isn't to find out if you are racist per se. It's an example of exploring subconscious bias.

The point is that we all have subconscious bias in one way or another.

To pick some examples out of the air from this forum,.....recent comments about how 'bikers' are treated in a) some pubs and b) Mercedes dealers.....those people are demonstrating unconscious bias against bikers and b) anyone who looks less than wealthy and/or is a biker. Esssentially saying that all bikers and/or people not dressed in Hugo Boss are 'bad'. Which obviously isn't true.

Same for Harley riders - believe it or not the majority are nice enough people but many stereotype them.

When I think 'England football fan travelling to an away game abroad' I immediately think 'overweight pissed up sunburnt racist louts and I have no interest in socialising with them' but in reality I suspect that most are appalled by the action of the minority and are probably great company. I am clearly demonstrating unconscious bias.

It's human nature, one that passes many of us by.

sorry Andy but a Harley is a life choice...... they are not cheap so it is a decision made by desire not need... anyone who actually chooses to buy and ride a Harley is marked down in my book as showing extreme lack of judgement and not to be trusted.
I guess that proves your point about bias.... but a Harley.... come on !!!

I read this today and thought it was spot on ....

I’m sick of covid-19.

I’m sick of black vs. white.

I’m sick of Tory vs. Labour.

I’m sick of gay vs. straight.

I’m sick of Christians vs atheists.

I’m REALLY sick of the media.

I’m sick of no one being allowed to think what they want & feel what they do without offending someone.

I am sick of people blaming the whole for the sins of a few.

We’re one race—the human race.

You want to support Boris Johnson? You do so. It’s your choice.

You want to support Kier Starmer ? Fine... also your choice!

You want to believe in God? Okay, believe in God.

You want to believe in magical creatures that fly around & sprinkle fairy dust to make life better? Awesome... you do so.

BUT stop thrusting your beliefs on others & not being able to deal with the fact that they don’t have the same exact mind-set as you.

Having our own minds is what makes us all individual and beautiful. If you can’t handle the fact that you may have a friend that has opposing views as you, then you are not any better than the bigots and the racists.

I don’t have to agree with everything you believe to be a decent human being & your friend.

.

I have very good neighbours but to be honest I would prefer no neighbours, at our previous house next door belonged to an old lass, we had huge hedges (bastard to trim) the full length of our garden, the old lass died & a property developer bought her house, he ripped out our hawthorns that separated our paddock from where he was building without our permission, he instructed the builders to rip down our stone wall, luckily I was at home & managed to stop them, this resulted in me grabbing him by the throat & nearly throwing him in front of a bus. He built five houses on the land & emigrated to Australia before they were finished, the closest to us was bought by a black lawyer & his white wife who was a Doctor, we trimmed the hedges & the lawyer came round complaining that people could see in his landing window now, I told him that they were my hedges & if I wanted to tear them out by their roots there is fuck all he could do about it, he stood there shouting, I told him that I was going to let my dogs into the garden & if he didn’t want to be their meal he’d better fuck off, he didn’t know that the dogs were as soft as shit.

I'm sure there must be more to this story but it's been reported that a university professor tweeted 'white lives don't matter'. The university in question, can't remember if it's Cambridge or Oxford is taking no action.
