I have and 03 Blackbird which has 63750 miles on the clock and has been brilliant. I bought it with 8K and rest is mine. I have been everywhere on it 2 and 1 up UK and Europe.

I have been through 3 CCT, 1 Battery, 2 sets on chain and sprockets apart from the originals and one rear disc. Just about to fit 2 new front discs and new battery... I have also carried out the Loom mod.

It does run hot as all the EFI ones do and if your not careful in heavy traffic, full lights and fan will kill the battery. I just switch off the full beam and keep the engine spinning.

I have never owned a bike like it and have been riding for 35 years constantly. They are AWESOME...

Honda should have never stopped selling them. They should have uprated it to 1200cc, Fully adjustable USD forks and rear shock.
(Maybe no linked brakes) other minor tweaks.

I have another rear shock to rebuild and replace along with new uprated fork springs which I will fit when I can be bothered.

It has a few marks on it but most people are shocked when they see the milage on the dash. I will say that I have been strict with servicing and intervals. What more can I say.

If you have had many problems then I think you have been very unlucky which is a shame.

Good luck anyway.

No big problems.

A year with my first Triumph since 1969.... a 2004 Daytona Street Fightered

Fuel pump
ECU
Reg/Rec
Alternator
Replaced top half of main loom

More charging failures than soft Mick.

I have been recovered by the AA on 5 occasions in that year.

But... I love the bloody thing when it goes. Off to Ireland on Thursday for the NW200. Wish me luck!:-0)

I've always found my Birds reliable despite my absuse. Both our girls have chinese mopeds which have proved to be heaps of shite so far.

Problem with doing this Clive, is that if the reg/rect does go within its warranty period, you can't then send it back :xm. This is precisely what happened to me. Shan't be doing it again.

Barring my CCT issue, all my problems have been centered around the shit reg/rect. I suspect even the ECU, as it probably got a nice big spike when the RAC guy had to jump start me the one time :)-(. I took a look at the reg/rect on my R1 this morning - its massive, huge heatsink and located for good airflow. Compare this to the BB, located under the rear cowl, I can't see how it can get any air flow at all.

Mines well out of any warranty, heat air flow... 12volt computer fan?

1998 Carb I've owned it since Feb 2007, 126,000 miles (103,000 miles is mine!)

So far apart from the consumables, it's on the 4th CCT, 3rd Reg/Rec, 3rd Generator (my crap electrical skills accounted for the 2nd set failing!), 3rd Battery, 3rd set of C&S (soon to be replaced again!), wheel bearings & headstock bearings were replaced due to wear. Brake discs were replaced at 103k with a set of wavy Armstrongs from JAWS, which are excellent, and do really look nice as well. Downpipes were replaced with stainless items from Sandy Bikes spares when the originals finally rotted through. Both side fairings and mudguard and generator cover have also been replaced as a result of a couple of minor spills - ice is REALLY SLIPPERY!, and potholes DO NOT provide much support for feet when trying to hold bike up!

I replaced brake hoses with HEL braded jobs, pads with EBC HH, have a JAWS suspension refresh (shocks, springs & spacers) in since 60k (also with JAWS adjustable fork tops/bar risers), HID on dip only, and a set of Beowulf end cans.

I have only had to be recovered once when reg/rec failed and battery drained before I got it home (it was 80 miles back though!), the 2nd time the reg/rec went, I was able to nurse it home the 20 or so miles.

I have the real problem of what to replace it with when the time comes!

Despite the fact I'm flogging it, I can't say I've ever had an issue with mine.

Bike on 50,000 miles, almost 20,000 done by me and apart from servicing, it's had pads and a new front bulb. I ride all year in all conditions and apart from the front wheel looking tired (couple of marks from where some weights were removed at some point have reacted to the salt a bit) and the fork legs looking a little scruffy (pretty standard) it looks grand.

Replaced the front pads for the MOT and everything came out easy and went back no problems. Considering simply putting my chain through the rear wheel of my previous ZX9R rubbed the paint off, the BB is miles ahead.

Edit to add - only fault has been the steering lock giving up the ghost but not exactly fussed there.

5t.

there is a conversion kit that allows use of the R1 regrec on all kinds of bikes inc the Bird Think if you have a search on US eBay you'll find the listings for the kits. Moffet I think it's called.

It's where I'll go next time I reckon. Mind you the regrec and wiring kit aren't cheap.

Simples.... another. @tu*:yo:

I've already come to that conclusion myself, but I suspect that I will be far too old to ride by the time my current steed expires@tu*, as I've probably only got another 20-25 years of riding left8rfl@
