Blackbird longevity - just what is the truth?

ianrobbo1

good looking AND modest
I ended up carrying a Kitchen type chair!! :eek: one side of London to the other, only when I got to the drop, was I told it was worth thousands :eek: and was up for auction that day, the dispatcher :wank: was supposed to send it by van but fekked up "as usual" :rant:

As I left the job, the drug dealers had started getting wise and were openly using couriers to move drugs about the capitol, a mate was pulled and the coppers impounded him and his bike until he could prove he was Kosher!! :dunno:

Two nuts from Huddersfield to Sizewell 6pm Friday then back to London. That was the night that I decided that a Deauville was not my ideal ride!

Still kickin' it!
Rear shock can go from 50K onwards – I guess “when” depends on whether you carry a pillion plus luggage and do a lot of miles.

Shove a 6mm spacer in when, or before, you renew the rear shock to transform the “lazy” front end..

The only loom trouble I had came at around 70K on my 2004 ‘Bird. Other than that, it still felt OK when I rode it – until I got on a new ‘un…! :whi5tl:

On that basis (and all the stuff on here), do the loom fix as soon as...

Front forks mark up, but they’re really easy to flat down and polish, so no moans there.

The rest is just simple stuff like regular oil/filter changes plus CCT renewal. De-link the brakes if you absolutely must.

Keep it clean, polished, protected and lubed at all times ‘n’ it’ll never let you down.

The Blackbird was a "quality" statement from Honda and I reckon it’s still the best, all-round genuine hyper-bike/sports tourer ever produced.

In my opinion, nothing has ever come close – and I’ve tried a few.

...Surprised there's even a mass-debate on this, really... :-0)

Hi Dark Angel

Don't forget to add Regulator/Rectifier, Stator, Battery to the list of bits that will need replaced, electricity will escape from the wires and wreak havoc with these at some point!

Fair comment, Kev. But I think the list of "perishables" for a 'Bird would be manageable long after a bike of another brand had perished in its entirety! :}

Totally agree@tu*, RR & stator is on my "consumables" list along with tyres, chains, sprockets etc. The list is still agreeably small, and the mileages that most items last are reasonable :yo:

Still it does seem to be the "Achilles Heel" along with the CCT.

Can anyone tell me what a 'swathe' is please.

Either way, I think there are better collectives for Blackbird owners...

'A twat of Blackbird owners' springs to mind immenduately.

Excellent :yo::yo:

If Honda had intended the bike to be another colour, they wouldn't have called it a blackbird, would they?
