Blackbird brake pads

After 34000 km of riding, my old pads were getting pretty thin and the full set of new ones arrived today. Is this distance good, normal or bad for a set? The main question however is price. I paid $248 (~88 quid) for the full set of SBS sintered pads, including a small amount of freight. The pads are 735HS fronts and 736LS rear. Given the generally good prices for bike gear over hear, they seemed a bit steep. What would I be paying in the UK?

Cheers

Sounds a bit steep to me m8 - ?60ish for a full set of decent pads here. I take it that you never use your brakes Geoff! I get about 6000 miles out of the rear, about twice that out of the front........mind you, I do live on the brakes a lot, a substantial amount of 'oh feck!! I'll never make it at this speed!!'

Hi Geoff, Just had a look on Jaw's web site. He does EBC HH Sintered pads for ?20.50 a pair. RRP of ?23.50.
I managed to get 16,000 miles out of mine. They weren't on the limit either. I only had them changed because it went in for its 16,000 service.

jaws i think you may have to drop your price a bit.

I didn't get mine from Jaws either but................ It took me 5 emails later to get the bloody thing sorted and correct because I was not sent the shimms, then I was only sent one set and so on.

After sales service counts for a lot in my book. I havn't spent anything worth mentioning with Jaws but, what I have had has been immediate and up front.

I hope you got the correct ones for you bike, along with new shimms for each pad, unlike my expirience. Sometimes the cheapest doesn't always make it the best choice.

You pays yer money, you takes yer choice.

Mine has eaten a set of genuine Honda rear pads in 6000k and its linked..

I remember you a while back saying that you never touch your rear man8um and its probably seized up......what the F**k would you know about pad wear. Go fill a matress with your hair clippings 'HIPPY'. :f

have neverd heard of different pad wear on linked brakes before , cause they are linked and all come on together.

So as yours are linked then borroxhead your rear must be rubbing(what will poor bertie use then??? )

My pads all wear out in roughly the same time. 6000-8000miles

Given that you paid less than I buy them DIRECT from EBC for I would say that the vendor is using the brake pads as a loss leader..

Of course the people you bought them from will fit them FOC if you asked as well, and naturally you can bend their ears for a couple of hours asking advice and stuff about the Bird..

Nah Mick,,, dont think I will be dropping my price just to piss on someone..

be a funny old world if we were all the same and everyone sold everything for the same price !!

Thanks everyone for the good info....

It seems that the pads I bought are expensive by UK standards which might have something to do with import tarriffs from Europe, seeing as SBS pads are Swedish. On the plus side, new 2003 run out model Blackbirds have been selling for for ~$6000!

It would seem that like Clive, I get a good distance from one set of pads. Can't explain this apart from always trying to match my corner entry speed to the conditions. Apart from when I make a pig's arse of it through not paying attention :}

Thanks again.
