Blackbird blast!

Wooo Hooooooooo!

:} :} :}

went for a proper blast on Saturday up to Box Hill (from Southampton) with a few mates on 600's. What a great hack that was! Probably the first real long distance blat on the BB since I got it. Previously only used for commuting, touring and fast but straight stuff.

What with trying to sell the Daytona at the moment (on www.purplepup.org) I was quite worried I'd lose the thrills of the lighter more sporty Triumph and its cornering ability. Well I neednt have worried too much, as we had a great time, and I got the pegs down (nearly followed by the back end as it stepped out on a wet corner) and totally grinned ear to ear on every corner. Cool.

Once its my one and only bike, a few tweaks like the 6mm spacer and some nice light cans etc will make it more flickable.

I liked the comment from the guy on the ZXR6 behind me when he said something along the lines of 'blimey for a big bike it goes round corners well! and, do you ever change gear?' to which I replied yes it does, and no i dont need to! Feet like humming bird wings those 600 riders...

Cool, cool ride. Must do it again next weekend.

Have to agree

with Clives coments...

Its about being in the correct gear for the speed of vehicle and the road conditions.

Keeping the engine 'on song' make the machine more responsive and alert, it also keeps the rider alert and switched on.

Try going around one of your favourite bends in 5th or 6th at a reasonable speed, then attack the same bend in 3rd or 4th keeping the bike under power and see how much better it sits into the bend and will get away from it quicker. Not only does this shaprpen you riding reflexes, it also make you quicker on the road. When you see the apex of the bend opening up, roll the power on smooth and gradually, dont snap it on as this can make the rear spin up and spit you off if youre not used to it. (If the rear does spin up dont shut the throttle off as this WILL high side you, )

Remeber with bends - slow in, fast out.

Buzz.

good advice guys, I've been riding the daytona for so long and now the bird, you forget the art of screaming... (the engine that is). I'll definately make a concious effort this weekend to try it more. Only trouble is, you keep running into the back of other bikes :} :}

I think its a relative thing too. Your average 600 rider HAS to make far more gear changes than a bird rider due to the enourmous tourque we have in each gear anyway.

Ahhh, wishing away tomorrow (friday), and they say it'll be nice on saturday too!

Cheers

Fast in faster out :lol:

May not have been a serious comment,

but Lumpy is right (did I say that)

Slow in Fast Out...... alright for Moss/Fangio/Hailwood

But modern set ups = Fast in, mental middle, ballistic out..

The most difficult bit of racing ( cos don't do it on the road )

is getting the first bit right..........

So Sanchez tells me.......... :rolleyes:
