Existing National,Speed Limit being reduced to 40mph and five speed cameras being installed.

The Petrol Heads are whining, conveniently ignoring the high accident rate and the place being used like a race track.

Ye reap what ye sow.

Others were even more critical of the decision. One man said: “They know it’s a prime spot to make some money – not safety cameras, just revenue income cameras.” Another poster agreed by saying: “Big brother state. They want to control you and take your money.” One man said it was a shame that a “beautiful scenic route” had lost its status as one of the best roads around. He said: “So we actually had one of the best rated and most famous motoring roads in Europe, which attracted thousands of desperately-needed tourists into our area, which in turn helped support a variety of struggling local businesses, and the local council just blatantly threw it all out the widow.

“I have enjoyed both riding and driving this beautiful local scenic route for my 40-plus long years of motoring. The vast majority of motorists – as do I – ride and drive this route in a safe and considerate manner. All these cameras will actually achieve is creating long lines of highly-polluting, bunched-up, slow-moving traffic jams. Have no illusions, these new ridiculously-placed speed cameras are being installed for one reason only: fleecing the pockets of hard-up everyday motorists.”

Turkeys voting for Christmas John…two sides to the story.

I have little doubt that as ever it is the minority spoiling it for the majority.

The other side….and let’s face it, surfing the inter webs for two minutes will get vastly differing opinions and can be cherry picked to support any view on the subject.
………….
Another poster said: 'To be honest, good. Don't get me wrong everyone speeds at some point but there's a time and a place and you won't catch me doing over the speed limit on a mountain road that's full of hazards like sheep, potholes, and debris.'

The decision to install an average speed camera system along the stretch has been made by GoSafe - the Wales road casualty reduction partnership - and Carmarthenshire Council, who have been 'working together for a number years to address the number of serious and fatal collisions' on the road.

A spokesman for GoSafe said: 'Speeding is a main contributor to fatal road collisions in Wales

I ( and it seems many others ) have no problem with the speed cameras, but I have ridden that road and a 60 limit is appropriate
To put cameras in AND reduce the limit to 40 is ob viously just looking for revenue

i was due to drive it a couple of months ago but the weather was terrible…mist, fog, drizzle…who would have believed it.

For me it is hard to ignore the reason stated for the change ie scraping people off the road and countryside. Leaving aside the personal tragedy, the cost to the taxpayer has to be a consideration. It’s the same as police resource down here having to be utilised to stop people standing on the edge of crumbling chalk cliffs (it’s true%!).

I wonder if a large part of the indignation if some is that it appears that (highly effective ‘fun’ spoiling) average speed cameras are being installed rather than (largely ineffective) fixed cameras

As ever it is the actions of a minority that spoils it for others.

I am looking forward to driving the road later in the year and frankly it makes no difference to me if I do it at 40mph. The scenery will still be the same and the Welsh Cakes will still be enticing.

It's a bit like the Cat & Fiddle route.
Most of that is fine at 60+ with the odd bit that needs much less plus some very tight bends and hairpins.

It's now got a blanket 50mph with average speed cameras all because of the few idiots.

On bike or car I regularly met bikes who were overcooking it on the bends and came out of the corner on the wrong side of the road.

With groups at the weekend you'd meet a whole gaggle in the wrong lane as they'd all followed the first numpty through.

The weekend warriors and idiots spoilt it for everyone.
