the media have made it look like he did something wrong by wearing black gear on a black bike

It's not till you go further that the real reason was he caused someones death by not having a licence or having insurance so clearly skills were not inplace.

For the copper to say
Sergeant Paul Coleman, who investigated the collision, said: "The verdict clearly shows the danger of taking unsafe and illegal vehicles on to the road. Murphy had made an illegal modification to this bike by riding it with headlight covers in place, therefore putting himself and his young pillion passenger in obvious danger."
"Murphy knew of the dangers yet still decided to use the bike in that condition. In doing so, Rebecca Young, who had only just turned 16, lost her life and a family have been devastated by the loss of their daughter and sister."

shows the copper was infact a right nobapart from the the chaps no licence no insurance it seems if you have lens covers on then a taxi can hit you and get away with it..or am I reading this wrong?

You're reading it wrong. This happened on the area i work on. Would anyone on here in all honesty go out at night in dark clothing and have virtually no lights on and then ride like a knob, and seriously not expect anything to happen.

The rider was riding very poorly as well as the other aspects to the case. This has caused a lot of grief and upset in the community as the young girl who lost her life had a large group of friends.

Turn it the other way, if a car driver went out with no lights on and hit a biker, wouldnt we be up in arms.

MAN on the PAN
If you decide to ride at night with a dark lens cover you're on borrowed time and the fact he had no licence or insurance :wank:
shame for the young lass though

My point was that they seemed to emphasise that the issues was a black bike with black clothing and not an unlicensed, uninsured rider.

I agree I have used covers in the past but always taken them off at night as I feel most bikers do when they have them.

My concern in this nany state is that the do gooders tree huggers may say all black gear should be banned..which sounds silly, but not impossible

Just read the article and to me it just states the obvious, the knob was riding a black bike with black clothing and (effectivley) no lights, in the dark, an accident waiting to happen

Btw I wear all black gear but I reckon my HID lights even it out @tu*

And that is the point they were (very clearly) making, night, black, no lights... you know how they like to paint as descriptive a picture as possible for the jury in case they misunderstand. The bloke was a total idiot and obviously had no care for anyone including sadly his passenger. He got 4 1/2 years, should have been 10.
