What car is it? I'm only aware of a couple of cars that eat turbo's.

Do you have a turbo timer?

Turbo's should last a lot longer than that.

Check the oil feed to the turbo is my first thought. Then the air filter.

Then I saw the colour of your bike. You do realise there is no way an old veccy is going to go as fast as a black one don't you?

Other thoughts are do you drive at high rpm for a long time and then stop the engine quickly? An hour on a motorway and into services is typical behaviour that turbo's don't like.

it would be interesting to go from 70 down to Zero and turn off quicker than the turbo spins down though,

Heatsoak.

Everything has built up lots of heat. Yes the turbo spins down fast enough, but it's still bloody hot, and needs a couple of minutes to cool.

Years ago I had an Audi TT. That would pump the oil around for about two mins after shut off which made sense. You'd really see the sense at night if you popped the bonnet up as you could see the glow after a good run.

I've now got an Audi A4 with the Stop/Start feature and when you come to a standstill it simply turns off and there's no pumping noises or anything. It does make me wonder if it'll kill the turbo in years to come.

The owner's handbook for my motor says that the engine should be left to idle for three minutes when stopping after a journey. I always try and do this. Saying that, my burd never bothers in her car and she's yet to have a turbo shit itself. We both do some hefty mileage too; well, I do when I'm not stuck overseas on a job like I am now!:bang:

I was planning on getting a motor with stop/start when I change mine but I wonder if it'll kill the starter motor too.

The start motor/battery/turbo concerns have been mentioned on some of the car forums but a yet I've not seen any issues. Having said that the Stop Start only came onto the A4 for the MY2010 model (i.e. mid/late 2009) so I guess it's too early to tell.

If I come to a stop after it's been working hard then I just press the button to disable Stop/Start anyway. Even if you always disabled Stop/Start it still has the advantage of dropping the A4 down a tax group @tu*

Heard similar horror stories on the Landy forums, so after a decent run I try to let the engine run for a couple of minutes before I turn it off.

last thing I need on the Landy is ANOTHER problem
