I got in to so much trouble reading them..
Got caught reading them in class ( a repeat offender in German class and got the cane ! )
At home.... reading under the covers with dads torch until the batteries died. Again repeatedly and when Pater eventually found out why every time he went use the torch it needed new batteries he went ballistic !
He had, apparently had a rather boisterous row with the battery vendor for flogging duff batteries !!

Any way, I digress

The thing that sticks in my mind is when the school got someone in to treat woodworm...as he fired moisture into the holes the letters J E N N I N G S were slowly revealed....
