Bird, too good to be true?

Looking to get my first bird. Seen this ad but is it too good to be true? Any thoughts or suggestions. Should I leave well alone?

I didn't think dealers were allowed to do this??

Either way, imho it is at the very least a grand overpriced on that basis. I wouldn't give more than £1500 for it as I would guess that is roughly what they gave px. Not many Birds are worth £3k, even good low mileage bikes, it's a buyer's market.

It may well be a good bike - the first Bird I bought the dealer couldn't get rid of it quick enough as it had (from memory) thirty something thousand miles on it. I sold it at 105k and last I heard it was still going strong.

When I bought mine I was able to locate the last owner from the paperwork and give him a quick call to check the bike out .........

As mentioned above, there are plenty good Birds out there, if you can find one from someone on here you probably won't go far wrong.

If the bike is sound then the price is ok, I paid over £3k for my 52 plate with 32000 miles on the clock, it would appear that he has put it as spares or repair as he doesn’t want to give a warranty with it, have a good look around & test ride a few.

Thanks both for the advice. Difficult as it’s 2hrs away to view. Was tempted just to put a deposit down and take a risk but maybe I need to be patient and the right one nearer home will come along soon. Want to be up and running by the spring

How much!!

On a more positive note, you might be interested in watching Countryfile next Sunday - it's from North Yorkshire.

Well I better snap one up soon.

On that note the guy selling mentioned “the down pipes once they get to around 25000 miles tend to need replacement down pipes” Is this true based on your experience?

Not with the stainless downpipes on the later, injected 'Birds.

And yes, the bike is at least £1k overpriced, sold as trade without warranty.

Another reason to suggest they are talking out of their bottom. Yes they do go sometimes on the older bikes but it is no more of a problem on aBird than any other bike.

As above the later bikes (which are still ancient) have stainless downpipes that can be put on earlier bikes.

The charging circuit is more likely to fry itself.

At today’s prices that is a good deal.
A few weeks ago a 2001 plate made more than that at a trade only auction.

What people ask for and what they get are often two different things! Equally there are a surprising number of people out there who are so wealthy and/or stupid the price of something is largely irrelevant - if they want it, they buy it.

I have more than once bought a car and advertised it for sale straight away to see if anyone is daft enough to pay a silly price. It worked on the nice 85 Cavalier Sri130 I bought, made a nice profit on that. When I bought the Swedish barge the seller gave me a note from someone else who really wanted the car offering to buy it off me for a premium.

Thanks all. Don’t think I’m either but we’ll find out! Looking to get a FI bird 2002 onwards with around 20-30k on the clock. Either blue, black or silver. I hear red is just too slow!!
