Bird flu

We've all seen on the news about the spread of Bird flu, but have we thought about the implications? not just in this country but on a world wide scale, we may think that while it has not yet reached this country it has nothing to do with us but remember a reduction in birds means an increase in insects, an increase in insects means a reduction in crops, a reduction in crops means a price hike.
Eggs, not only eggs but all produce containing eggs will be subject to a price increases as the flu takes it's toll on the bird population, apparently the vaccinations don't stop the birds from being carriers so any unvaccinated bird [which will be the majority] is at risk.

It's not likely to pass through the wild bird population so much as the poultry.

We still get some fuckwitt comments about our parrots too. We don't even let filthy infected people near them, never mind french swans!

The flu virus is airborne and can be carried by dogs/cats, some humans have died from it so we must also be able to carry it so once you venture out onto the street & mix with others then you become a potential carrier.

such a "little ray of light" is our Derek!! unfortunately he's right :bang:
it's not killing many at the moment, but has the potential for killing millions, look at how they keep chickens in Hong Kong as an example!! your Parrot may well live a solitary life, but unfortunately it will still be vulnerable as this spreads!! :dunno:
with any luck it may pass as the weather changes and the birds stop migrating over here!! :dunno:

The Avian Flu virus isn't an airborne virus, not according to the report I saw on it the other night.......

YET!! but whilst people are still living with the birds in the home, they are open to catching the disease through contact, "I'm still refering to the Hong Kong scenario" not Pugwash, and passing it on that way!! :dunno:

I'm baffled why the parrots are more likely to give me flu than the 4 cats, dog, chinchillas, 3 kids and school teacher girlfriend.

In fact, the girlfriend is the most liely one to pass-on something...

If my girlfriend was likely to pass on something I think I would be looking for a new girlfriend.

"The European Commission has also confirmed that the bird flue found in Turkey is the H5N1 type which is lethal for humans. The same type of bird flu had killed over 60 people in Asia"
FOX News

Now am I being stupid, or is 60 deaths in a vastly more populated continent not very many?

Smoking still kills a lot more, as does the cold, as does falling asleep whilst driving, Mad cow disease, smoking, crossing the road, riding bikes, driving cars, in fact just about anything you care to mention.

Think it's just slow news day fodder. If there were thousands dying, it would be an issue but at the mo, when there's nowt much happening out comes the bird flu story.

It'll be in MCN next, yoiu just watch!
