'Bird Cat C Write-Off

I just found out that my 'bird was formerly a Cat C write off. I knew the previous owner had lowsided at 30mph and resprayed the bike etc, but I wasn't aware that it had been Cat C.

Can anyone tell me how I would check that the bike was returned to the road legally etc. I have the V5 in my name and I get V11 reminders etc, so I'm assuming it has been declared to VOSA/DVLA etc, but this is the first time I've dealt with this issue.

Thanks guys.

Errr.. The fact it has been taxed indicates it is back on the road legally.
Bike cats are different to car ones.. Yours would not have needed a VOSA inspection apart from a normal MOT

Cheers John. You've seen the bike and I've had no problems with it, but obviously if I'm selling I need to declare it's history. This only came to light because a potential buyer ran a check.

Be aware that if you ever go to dealer to trade in they might not want it. (Mine is also cat c)

No worries; it's a 'working bike' and I've used it as such. It's just that I find myself in need of money fairly sharpish, and it's too good a bike to let go for peanuts, Cat C or no Cat C. If the worst comes to the worst I'll have to sell my DR800 (which despite being 16 years old and an import is actually quite sought-after).

My bike is a '98 R reg, and Parkers price that at £1800-£2500. I'm being offered £1400. The bike is simply too good to let go for that kind of money, so I'm going to effect repairs/replacements to the bodywork and corroded bits (forks, swingarm) and keep it. The potential buyer is a stand-up guy and actually I'm glad I now know it was a Cat C. No disrespect to Big Kev btw, he sold it to me for a good price in 2007 and it's never let me down.

It's got 40k miles on it and I trust Jaws when he says it's mechanically mint (and the suspension is the best I've had on any bike).

My heart says I should keep my DR800 and sell the 'bird, but my head has to rule on this one. Plus my g/f Sophie will, in all liklihood, now inherit the blackbird (and she already loves it to bits).

I knew it was cat c when i bought it. All the panels had been replaced but after the test ride i had to have it. 11k later the only problem was the alternator failing. (last day of 3 month warranty:yo:) I reckon i'll keep it till i can't ride it anymore.
