As the country and the media gear up for the George Best funeral overload, Sky is already reporting that his body has been flown to Ireland in a private jet, into a military airfield, and that the security operation is going to be the biggest since the last royal visit there!!

Who's paying for all this?

I Feckin hope it is his family and not the taxpayer.......

Anybody have any relevant info??

Yep, on that very airfield. 'Tight security'? if you call being told not to stare out of the windows and not to be walking around when the coffin was driven out (it was lunch time FFS :bang: :bang: ) because it would be in bad taste then yes, security was tight.

A few local dignitories and their cling-ons were present plus the station execs (always keen to get their head up some politicians ar5e).

Seems an awful lot of fuss for an alcoholic, wife-beating, liver thief. Hate to think what would have happened for someone important.

I thought this was a thread to ask what the best kind of funeral was. Not your own, obviously.

Many harsh words have been said but no matter what the guy was a human being.. and loved by his family the same as you lot are loved by yours..
The fact he could at one time kick a ball about a cow field makes no odds.

Anyone who thinks footballers are special people are errrrr.. possibly special people ( in that patronizing way that folk speak of the mentally challenged ! LOL ! )

It will be paid for by the same people who took these costs for the Lady Di funeral, obviously. That's me and you, matey. And why not? We had the funeral of a serial adulterer paid for out of public funds so why not a serial piss-artist like George Best? George's funeral was small beer (pun intended) by comparison and I think you'll find that the Excise duty earned from the booze sales in the Belfast pubs the day of the funeral will more than cover the outlay.

If you think about it, you will probably find that George (and the "George Best" industry that he spawned) contributed an enormous amount of tax revenue to the Exchequer as, I suppose, did the "Lady Di" industry. Not only that, some of us got great pleasure from watching George humiliate and tear apart opposing football teams, just as we enjoyed watching Lady Di do exactly the same thing to the House of Windsor.

No, don't begrudge them the cost of a funeral from the public purse. They've earned it.
