I have done some digging but as yet cannot find a definitive answer to this, the cost of using a transponder on a Sky satellite
Reason I am trying to get the info is to find out how much of the licence tax BBC are loosing by continuing to rent space for BBC3 on Sky for the time it has been off air
BBC3 has now been off air for 6 years though they do have plans to fire it back up ( progs aimed at millennials ), yet still held a place on Sky

There are plenty of slots on the system so it was not because they were concerned the channel would not e able to get on
To set up and organise a slot on Sky can be done in weeks............

Been there, and had one

I don’t know about bbc3 as a stand alone channel, but the complete and utter shite they have on in the evenings isn’t worth anything. Personally I very seldom watch anything on any of the bbc channels, barring David Attenborough and Sky at Night.

Have you got this right? BBC3 broadcast from 7pm in the evening?

Dont know if it is still the same, it certainly was like this when BSB started up around 1990……..different broadcasters use (rent) the same ‘broadcast channel’at different times of the day…say BBC3 use it in the evening slot and (say) a shopping channel and/or say a religious channel uses it the rest of the time. Will use different channel numbers on the menu but broadcast on the same ‘frequency’ (probably the wrong terminology but you know what I mean).

Just wondering if you are looking to answer a question that doesn’t exist?

BBC3 was absent apart from a holding screen for six years
Sky will have been paid for that all the time

What am I missing here John - BBC3 is on air and has been for ages? There is a holding screen during the day when it isn’t Broadcasting.

Shows how long it has been since you watched something on BBC3
It went 'on line only' in Feb 2016.
It was its return to sky yesterday that got me thinking about it
