Jaws....................Not wanting to stand on anyone's toes or upset anyone,
but I know there was some suggestions about having the BASH in a different place.

I went to the MFN pub on Wednesday night. Nice place on the northern edge of Nottingham. Close to the Peak district, so some fabulous rides to be had. The pub is set out on it's own with plenty of space for camping and a large car park. Ideal area for a weekend do.

My thought's were, if there is enough interest, to either look at organising the BASH next year there, or, have a weekend do there later this year :dunno: to test the water, so to speak, probably in September.

What's your thought's on this Jaws :dunno:

Also to the collective on here, what do you reckon :dunno:

If there is enough interest, I'll have a chat to the owner on feasibility and dates etc, and take it from there.

Quite happy to organise and run with this one.

The only thing I would need is possible dates for a weekend do this year.

So give me your thought's and suggestions folks, and I'll see if I can sort something out.

Sounds like a damned good place for the tail ender bash WotNot.. Can you look into getting something organised mate ?

Idealy needs to be the first week in October as any earlier and I am already booked up.. sounds a bit selfish I know but hey.. LOL !!

The Big Bash is already booked up back at the same place though.. The bands are booked and deposits paid, the site is booked, and we are also trying to get a load of the Smart Car folks to join us too ( the more lolly for CLIC SARGANT at the end of the day .. and they really are a bunch of loons ! )

Hi peeps....

Well, I will try to put this in my most diplomatic of ways....Hoping not to offend anyone..... Not my intention...

Wotnot... Great to meet you & the Mrs on Friday night...Great idea for a new venue, and it is a great site ....

I know how much effort & time John puts into the bash, and how much it means to him... But I also feel that after 5 years at Thetford, the reason for the "apathy", and non-attendance this year is a feeling of ....Thetford "been there-done that".....

It has been put forward 2 or 3 times now about having the bash at A N Other venue, and this has always been rejected due to noise/drunken behaviour reasons...

If I may put forward a proposal which works for the huge German blackbird club. The annual meetings (2 in germanys case) move around the country, organised by the various "local" branches, all of whom try to out do each other, therefore providing a more varied & entertaining meeting...

Gypsy organised the "end of Season" bash last year, which was rained out of play, but we still had a brilliant time in the pub...LOL (who wouldnt ??)

I am not trying to step on amyones toes here, but am just putting forward my opinion, after seeing an enjoyable, but very low attendance bash this year...

Also, if we add the Smartcar group to this, it wont be The BIRD Bash, and could turn into a very cliquey (as opposed to clic) event...Would it be called the SmartBird bash ??? Maybe I am being rather selfish, I dont know...

IMHO, a Bash, moved around the country, and organised by local sections of the club could inject some well needed enthusiasm back into the BIRD group...

Just my thoughts...

sorry Dave, the smarty lot are a lot less cliquey than the bird lot mate..

Your post demostrates that very well !

I have been to events with a Kwak club and smart lot, a FISHING club and smart lot, a drag racing group and smart lot.. and every one has been bloody brill :p

Where as we cannot even get something going between IXXRA and BIRD due to pettyness.

The VFR AGRO has been going to the same venue at Norwich for several years now.. and believe me the cost of that weekend away is a darn site more than ?22.00 !!

As for a name for the event if it ever went ahead ? Well Bird would always take precident over the Smarts thats for sure .. so either a name that was weird, or one like BIRDSMARTS maybe. The smart lot do not give a toss about the name of an event, just so long as they have a bit of fun !

One other thing.. The very low attendance seems to have been a bit of a bonus according to a good many folk !!

This is the first year ever I have received several mails saying something like:
'small turn out, best ever'

Perhaps we should limit the numbers to 60 every year :p

The whole thing was originally set up for the Bash to be at a static venue ( due to a few reasons ) and for the tail ender to be moved around the country.

I can see problems with both sides of the coin.

Thetfords problem is that its isolated from the shopping areas and there's no reliable transport to the town besides the bike or a taxi which needs booking 1 day in advance.

A further problem is that there is nothing for the partners to do during the stay, we are ok chatting about bikes but i feel its maybe a touch quiet in that area.

Maybe a change of theme / venue would bring back the masses, a coastal venue for me would be awesome. If it goes ahead with the SMART cars i feel it should just be 'THE BASH'.... I also think it would be an advantage to open it up to a few other Oracle groups.
The BASH could be a monster if you wanted but then hey, its what you make it... There weren't many there this time but we all had a damn good laugh.

I think JAWS does a sterling job, i wouldn't like to organise it nor have the responsibility of it.
The only issue i have with the SMARTS joining is that i feel it will be divided clearly into 2 halves, more so than if it were another bike make joining the BASH.

(I do thing it should stay bike focused.)

Don't worry hun :k :k - you're not the only one to voice the opinion, and whilst 'The Bash' will continue in its 'joined up with other groups' way, I suspect the 'end of season' bash in different areas each year might just get bigger and bigger!

Historically, the bash was just a two day weekend event - not over the Bank holiday.

Whilst it is 'only' ?22 for the Bash, the hotels in Thetford are pricey (and not very good). For what it costs for 2 peeps for 3 days I could have a week in Spain!
The ride-out, the ped racing etc all used to get done in the two days. It only got spread thinner over the three days.

Agree with Rhino about things for the girls. Again the two day event partly counters this.

If it were to be moved then I don't think that Nottingham would be far enough/close enough to entice peeps from further afield.

I also concur first bash i've been to can't wait for next years and as John said if you didn't go you missed out and i can't see the problem with it being in Thetford after all we ride Blackbirds which eat up the miles well they do if you actually ride them

I wish people would stop reading into my post that the bash was no good...

If you re read it, I actually said that it was a small but enjoyable meeting...

What I was trying to say was that the low numbers may be caused by a few things...

1... Been to Thetford 4 times, ...Done it..

2... Lack of real facilities (buses/taxis/proper showers/toilet facilities/things for the girls to do/expensive hotels & b+b's etc...)

3... The form of the bash has been stretched out to 4 days from three without any real "extra" activities...

This is not to say that its not a good bash... Jan & I enjoyed what we could participate in, but the hotel ruined it for us.. Overpriced, and actually, dirty & unwelcoming....

As for the Smart thing... Its an idea, but I thought this was a bike group, and whether they are good fun or not, nice folks or not, the BIRD bash is still a bike meeting...

Sorry to sound prejudiced, but if I wanted to go to a car run, then I would join a car group(which we may just do, as Jan & I are in the process of buying a Mazda MX 5, which has a huge owners club)

As for the rest of the bash attendees... You dont need to tell me how much fun it was... We were there..

So why do you want to increase numbers again with the car group ???

Try discussing this...

good looking AND modest
I enjoyed myself at the bash and the hotel we stayed in was very reasonable & clean!! next year however, I will be "under canvas" as I wont have to pander to others!! and I'm gonna enjoy myself as much as I did this year  sure Thetford has it's drawbacks, but at least we all know what to expect and can make allowances, I dont know if I'll be able to afford to go to the "end of's" but I'm going to try, and suggest that any "newbies" that havnt "done" the bash get their arses to at least 1 bash this year you wont regret it I'm sure!!

Hmmmm, well then, there is a few things to take onboard.

the reasons Anya and myself no longer go to Thetford are,

1, Been there done that, [already said.]

2, Facilities, piss poor for both sex's.

3, nothing new happens.

In a nutshell, its 'same old, same old'. The spontinaity has gone.

We started the End of Season Bash in the Cotswolds some years ago, Rolfy, DB, Shrops Taffy, loads of people got involved and it was good. We then moved it to Devon with the idea of other people/area's taking over and organising something in their areas. That sadly did not happen so once more we went to the Blackcock Inn to give it one more go. Gypsy took up the challenge last year but due to a date conflict we could not make it but will try this time.

I personally beleive that to inject the missing ingredient back into the main Bash the venue should be moved, even drop the UK Bash and attend en'mass a european meeting. The Midland Masiff have just been over to Holland, a mere 200 miles from Calais, to the International Blackbird Owners meeting, and the event was superb, great camping, food was 5* beer was cold and cheap. As something different its well worth a visit. Bird should give them a call about next year and try and link up and get a truly Blackbird International Riders Domain meeting organised.

Just my personal thoughts.

Bash

As already said,, Thetford,, been there done that (3 times) at first it was good,, great turnout from Europe & the U.S.A,, I personally think stretching it over 4 days was to much,, the facilities are a bit basic for most.
The location needs to change IMHO,,or even rotated around the country,, all it needs is a campsite with pub (that does food) with good washing facilities ( mainly for the girls).
John ( Jaws)does a great job but thought you would have jumped at the chance to let Wotnot take it off your hands for 1 year,, give you & Mo a well earned break, & personaly I think bringing cars (smarts)into the bash is a crazy idea,,because it is a bird bash after all.

anyway those are our thoughts on the subject,
BTW for the record we have been to 4 out of the 6 bashes held. First one at Scarbourough,, next 3 at thetford. Oh ,,& 1 in Holland this year. p0pc0rn41
