can anyone in the Clacton Frinton, south Ipswich area help someone out who is in the doo doo a bit ?

I really nice guy from that area bought a pair of bar risers from me recently.

He took them to Honda Lings to have them fitted who reckoned the cables were not long enough and would wear through !
Well having fitted a good few sets and having sold LOADS more, this is a first !

Is there anyone in that area who has fitted the bar risers and could pop to this chap to show him whats what ?

I did say if he was concerned at all he could simply send them back, but then he told me the fitter had marked the caps when fitting them ! ( yet he still thought the fitter in question was good at his job.. quite amazing )

So he really would like to get this sorted out and the risers fitted.

Can anyone in that area help at all please ?

Well the info is that according to the guy in Lings ( rob ?? ) the throttle cables are too short and rub..
When I asked if he had made any attempt to re route them he said no !

If you could send me your current email addy Bubba, I will get him to get in touch with you :p

Appreciate the help on this one !

Well I can 100% confirm that the guy at Lings def routed the cables wrong !
Everyone I have mailed asking if they had a problem has replied the same..

I think the best way fwd BD, is to wait for this damned weather to break and pop over here.. Job will not take long and I can fit you in between others :p

I had problems with the cable routing when I got my second hand carb'd bird - with the choke cable... This was because the cable was trapped in the fuel tank lugs... Quick 5 minute fix, remove rear tank bolts, unclip side plastics, loosed tank off front lugs and reroute cable...

Hey Jaws,

Thanks for the research, would be more than happy to pop over to see you and what other goodies you might have.
Bubba has e-mailed me with a kind offer to take the bike to him, but no arrangements in place yet.

My Bird is a 52 reg (injection) so no choke cable to worry about... The throttle cables were far too tight, not seen how bad the clutch cable will be, but like you said this could be rectified by unclipping..

Speak soon.

Kind Thanks.. to Duracellbunnie and Bubba

Had a good try at fitting the Bar Raisers yesterday but we could only confirm that the cables WOULD need to be re-routed, but we could not see how that could be done safely.
Mission Abborted !

Thanks for your help guys.

bar rising

Hello,

If its a set of Vario bar's, good luck, most unlike me, I sat down and read the instructions.
Two hours later I admited defeat,:bang: and booked my blackbird into Knotts bike shop.
It took them a complete morning to get them on, they stood by there quote of one hour labour, but I'v had to return the bike now and have the brake and clutch hoses changed as the original ones were being stretched to far.

On the plus side they do make a difference, but not much better than just sticking a set of VFR bars on.

Bush.

I have had another Club member offer to fit a new (longer) clutch cable, but this does not solve the throttle and Brake cable probs on the other handle. Im sure it is all possible, but for the time effort and ?ost, I think you have to weigh up whether its just worth putting up with the riding position as it is..

My Brother, and I am sure umpteen other Bird riders find the riding position comfortable, but I suffer from aching wrists and lower back ache if I cover too many miles. I have changed the seat (courtesy of 'MelBoy' Custom seats in Coventry) which has made a big difference, and would highly recommend it to be a consideration for anyone else who is suffering.

Bar Risers update

A little knowledge goes a long way, even when it comes to doing the simple tasks, demonstrated by JAWS yesterday.
Local Honda dealer couldnt or wouldnt, four Bird owners had put their best into it too as you will have seen from the previous threads..

Jaws being the gentleman that he is  ..!?? says ''bring the bike over and I will do it for you''
A little re-routing of the cables and 30mins work, Bar Risers fitted.. Oh, and a few other goodies I just happened to ask about !.
Thankyou very much:beer:

Glad you got it sorted mate. Must admit, I did have my "Kitchen Fitters" head on but I also did say that I had never fitted these before, (Looking for a wee escape route!).

Now all you have to do is swing by the EEMCC clubhouse on Sunday evening, (1st May), for the rideout and gimme a butchers. :-:

I had my set of bar raisers with the spring adjusters from Jaws a couple of weeks ago along with a set of wavey brake discs, my local dealer (Dennis Irvine in Aberdeen) got everything on without a problem, no trouble with the cables or anything else so I'm a happy bunny ! :yo:
