Tallboy bombs were stored at Barnham Thetford along with our nuclear deterrents..
There is a mock up of a Tallboy at the entrance to the site ( now called Gorse industrial estate ).. bought many years ago and has been an industrial estate for as long as I have lived here

Can't help wondering what damage there would have been if it had been a bit nearer the wall of the canal!

not to much of an issue as the blast goes up instead of out as it take the path of least resistance. There bombs were designed to penetrate and then explode thus causing the shock wave to transmit better. The wash of water would have caused a bit of damage but it would have been minimal.

I was more thinking about the effect of the 'dams' bombs that were effective as they were designed to detonate right next to their target.

The 'bouncing bomb' is completely different to the 'tall boy's'. The tall boys were designed to penetrate deeply into the ground, then explode forming a cavern under ground into which the above ground structure would collapse into.
