Bah! Why does it have to be 3 things failing?

Firstly, one of the freezers in the shed has decided to fail, resulting in a fair bit of spoiled foodstuffs :( So I’ve had to order a new one for delivery Friday

secondly, I bought some new spectacles with revised prescriptions for the varifocals. The distance view is fine, the closeup, reading, view is fine. The transition between the 2 isn’t. It makes me nauseous it’s as though the transition is too high up the lens. So I’ve an appointment made for Monday

thirdly, as I was on the phone to Specsavers about my glasses I found my left hearing aid wasn’t communicating with my iphone. On checking it appears I’ve managed to break the wire  This is after only recently been for a hearing test, a revised prescription transmitted to the aids and told they were fine and I didn’t need to consider new ones until the old ones could no longer be repaired. So, I have driven to Specsavers, told them my tale of woes and left it to be repaired hopefully. I don’t really want to part with £2100 with a new pair just yet.

My first set of varies were from specsavers, they weren't brilliant.
Just before I was due for new, I was told (Can't remember who by, but it was someone whose opinion I respected) that if you graded varifocal lenses
and let's say they went upto 5, with the higher the number the better the transition and, more importantly if you ride, the better peripheral focus.
Specsavers only sold upto the 3.
I bought my next pair from Vision express, asking for their best as I had done with specsavers, they were dearer but not by a lot.
But they were so much better.

My existing varifocals came from Specsavers 8 years ago and are faultless, it’s just my eyes no longer require as strong a prescription.

My varifocals also came from Specsavers and I have not had any issue since they were first recommended about 8 years ago.

I guess it might depend on location or individual shops as like all things you good and bad experiences.

my local Specsavers has always been very good since I first started using them over 30 years ago.

I tried varifocals once. I picked them up from an optician in Covent Garden when I worked over that way. By them I'd reached my railway station back at London Bridge, I'd tripped over three kerbs, a loose paving stone, one crisp packet, four kids, six adults, three taxis, a letter box and a bus. I almost fell down three flights of stairs on the underground. I was also accused of being drunk by one of the adults I tripped over. I turned around, went back and got a refund. Bastard things. I now stick to reading glasses and have had my right eye corrected by laser.

Took me a while to get used to Specsavers varifocals.
My first time using them.
It felt like I was looking from about a foot above my head .
Now ten years in and three sets later I am fine with them even when new.

The problem with varifocals is that you'll run into problems if you start looking down while walking.

If you start looking at your feet you'll be using the bit of the lens used for close work, you can't avoid it.

So you can't possibly focus on your feet or steps/objects etc while walking.

If you try you simply befuddle your brain and stumble/fall.

Iv e had a similar run myself Malone, started 6 days before Christmas day when my TV went pop (£400). Then the car Batt (£150) .It has a 5 yr guarantee from halfords, dug out the receipt it has faded to nothing. Then beard trimmers packed up (£40) ,followed by My Xbox (£500). There is another item, cant remember right now. After the beard trimmers I thought "Ok, thats it,these things come in 3's" I guess inflation is now added to old sayings as well now!

I was warned that this was going to happen and to be careful.
