Bad luck or bad timing?

The water pipe is a good protector from development (as are railways limnes and major roads) but golf courses aren't - they have closed in their droves in the recent past and there have been cases where clubs have specifically closed to be developed for housing (at the end of the day money nearly always talks). My son's house is built on Horsell Common due to a quirk in planning law involving previous usage of the land.

Nowhere is bulletproof I'm afraid as the spectre of government targets for new housing hangs like a black cloud over every district council.

Gosh, I seem to have joined the @derek kelly Realist Society:D

We get regular company news updates via the tinterweb. They have added a new one recently called 'BAME news'.
Surely that could be classed as racist and a form of segregation?

It really pisses me of that any group (regardless of race, creed, colour, religion, gender, sexual preference and/or political orientation) demands their own publication (or any other platform) and is allowed to do so. Doing is so is exclusive of any others outside their group and is therefore, by definition, discriminatory.

If you want to be equal then act f'ing equal.

On my watch forum, one guy started a group for African American owners of a certain watch and it was shut down within twenty minutes. Fuckwit couldn't get his head around the fact that by excluding Asians, Hispanics, Whites, etc. that he was being racist.

I agree with this in it's entirety!

One of the criteria on Mrs P's list when we were looking for this place was zero possibility of anyone building around us.

I really wish these f'ing developers would stop raping the countryside and sticking new developments all over the place. It's gone way too far. If they really must build, there's enough dilapidated shite that they can pull down instead of destroying the small amount of green that we have left.

Bollocks. Why should people have to live cheek by jowl.

Brown sites within a built up area should be turned into green sites to improve the life quality of the poor buggers living "cheek by jowl". Only 2.27% of GB is urban. Plenty of space to build on IF they get rid of the stupid green belt rules.

Bollocks yourself. Some people like the urban life. Why should those who opt to live in the country or in a small village have their lives permanently disrupted by greedy bastard developers building a new shithole on top of their homes and destroy the landscape in the process?

This is why I’m against new housing developments sprouting up everywhere. Not only do they disrupt the lives of the existing residents but they add to other problems. For example, building a development with several hundred houses next to a small village not only closes the proximity for the locals but puts a strain on the infrastructure, like the roads, doctor, sewage, water supply, etc.

And that’s exactly what these new developments do; bestow cheek by jowl permanently onto those that don’t want it and decimate the values of the existing properties in the process. Fool.

The reality is that many - not all - people choose city centre living as a lifestyle. A good example being my son and daughter in law who lived in central London until they started a family - they loved the busyness of it, walked to work, great transport links, could nip out for coffee/meal/gym/bar whenever they wanted to and were happy to live in relatively small properties that cost a small fortune.

That is why city centre properties tend to be very expensive I.e. Price driven by demand.

Not for me personally, I always preferred waking up to the sound of sparrows opposed to sirens:D

Brown field sites are favourably treated in terms of planning. I have a couple of what were new build rentals on an ex brown field site - a former car workshop and sales business - and the development is very pleasant. The developers had to remove the top eighteen inches of soil and replace with new and they were given a grant to pay most of that.

Got rid of an ugly eyesore business in a prominent place and provided good quality housing where it was needed. Winner winner chicken dinner for all.

Yes, brown sites; I didn’t know the correct term. What green we have left is disappearing at a rate of knots so building should be focussed on those brown sites, for the time being at least.

Something else that crossed my mind - have you ever been to a new housing development in the last 20 years? The houses are built on top of each other and the roads are so narrow that folk have to park half on the pavement which, incidentally, the government are now trying to outlaw. No parking, no privacy, no peace and quiet. I’ve lived on three such developments for 19 years before moving to where I am now, so I write from experience.

I’m surprised at you, William. You’re on of the few here that consistently writes common sense. If I didn’t know better, I’d say your account had been hacked.
