Avon Storm 3D XM - do they wear out?

I had a set on and the rear had done 6.5k miles and there was still over 5mm of tread left!

I know XM means eXtra Mileage and that the tread depth is deeper than average (over 8mm) to start with but that's still surprising me. I had to swap out the rear (looks like some road debris damage) so I've started ticking the miles off again.

Has anyone worn out a set?

What mileage did you get or are you up to?

Haven't worn out a set but my back tyre has done ~3200 miles and is down to 5 mm. Mind you I was only getting about 4K from Storm IIs and I did manage to wear one rear out in under 3K. All the riding has been 2-up, most of the time with full panniers and top box. If I get 5K out of a rear that's good for me. They've been good tyres so far. Did the Welsh Rally on the Bird in horrendous weather and on goat tracks at the beginning of May and they did very well. So overall, happy with them.

I've just replaced the front at 13,100 miles .... but not the rear yet!

Massive mileage and due to the dual compound still grippy plus great on the twisties! :bow:

Admittedly this has been mostly commuting milage but I'm not sure I can ask for more! @tu*

I got somewhere in the region of 8.5 out of the last XM I had fitted (swapped out with life on it as was going to Europe , on the other hand I ate through the Storm 3D Ultrasport I fitted by mistake in less than 4.5k and that was well past legal ;o)

best I have ever done in a back tyre is 2800 the worst is less than 900 on my blade FFS buy a pushbike 8rfl@8rfl@

I'd like the oppertunity to wear the fekkets out, the set I was given for evaluation have but a couple of thousand on them, I'm sure the bloke that sent them from Avon must think I've done a runner and not going to keep him up on the wear:dunno: so I feel a "bit" of a twat like h1d1ng2

Must think the same of me too then. I've only done just over a thousand on my set. My bird hasn't seen Tarmac all year, done all this years trips on the Pan. I am considering fitting that with 3Ds though.

I was planning on going to NEC on Tuesday so I could drop by the Avon stand and say hello to Gary, but it's looking like I'm gonna need to work and if I go it'll be the last Sunday instead.

Rolling up and down motorway/dual carriage ways makes up about 200 miles a week with the remaining 50miles a week being in town. To be honest the front was getting pretty horrid when it got changed and should have been swapped about 1000miles earlier. I was just too busy with work etc.

If I did more twisties on them it would keep the squaring off at bay but would obviously wear them out quicker.

For reference I was getting 9000-9500 on a front with the Ultra 2's.
