Looking at getting the Autocom Active rider setup, bike powered only, for my rider to pillion comms. How much does the wearing of earplugs affect it, and has anyone got this setup already, or tried it? :h

earplugs

if you wear the normal foam type earplugs then of course volume will be reduced. I invested in a pair of custom fit plugs with filters in so that i can still hear clearly but the filters cut out the harmful frequency's

I got the Autocom Pro 7 Sport system last week and I've been trying to set it up over the weekend. You can hear each other no problem through earplugs but I have a problem with setting up the vox operation when listening to music... basically, above 75mph the wind noise operates the vox and cuts the music out.
I guess I'll just have to keep fiddling.

If you keep fiddling with it, it'll drop off

My Autocom Pro 7 sport is sorted now. (after fiddling)
Though vox still picks up wind noise at high speed with certain head positions.
No problems with foam ear plugs. Carol & I both use them.

Autocom input

Jono,
not much to add to what has been said before, Foam plugs will work. My girlfriend is quietly spoken but even at speed we can still hear each other.
Never got music to work at a volume that made it enjoyable - too much hassle even with the vox set correctly. If you have got money to burn, Autocom recommend Headset Services. They make custom moulded ear pieces with speakers in-built. ?170 a pair!! Presume they are the "dogs..."

If you have a Hi/Low socket on your unit all you need is a standard stereo mini jack slotted in to toggle the higher volume setting. You need to short out the wires obviously. I have done this at the plug itself using about an inch of wire and just leave it in situ (if you want to toggle it Hi/Lo then just add a switch to the other end of the wire.) The gain is not much but you'll notice some difference. Sorry for all the spoddy detail...

another thing to note is helmet make/model. A mate of mine bought the Autocom and fitted it to his (and wifes) Shark helmets but the ear recess was so shallow that the speakers dig into the side of his head - result v painfull ears after an hour in the saddle.

My girlfriend and I both have Arai and these are a really good fit.

So, check the ear space in you lid before you buy.

Got out yesterday to give the Autocom its first testing, music only. Could not believe the clarity at..... ahem, a tad over the national speed limit, just for testing purposes obviously. The vox cut in a few times so will need adjusting, but I can see speech being no probs at well above M/Way cruising speeds. Compared to a previous kit I owned Autocom really is amazing. The other kit packed up at 30 - 40 MPH. It does do what it says on the box!!!! :yo:
